We were awful last night but almost pulled it off due to a lackluster Bayern. Proud of the way the lads defended at times (surprise, surprise, Vermaelen wasn't playing) and how we genuinely seemed to believe in ourselves. Just one step too far.

It was a good result, not the best performance. What the hell was Arteta doing in the closing minutes anyway?
Like last year, the damage was done in the first leg, I don't get the mentality of teams and fans in this country at times. We love a gallant loser. Wenger needs to sort the Arsenal defence out because conceding three goals at home isn't good enough. If they'd have kept the damage down to 2-1 they'd have gone through, all ifs and buts of course but if I was an Arsenal fan I'd be annoyed, the result looks good on paper but going into the second leg two goals down, the pressure is completely off by then, nobody expected them to go through after that and they were only really in the tie for about 5 minutes toward the end of the 2nd leg, had Bayern not have won so comfortably at Arsenal's ground then they wouldn't have been so poor last night. Scoring within 3 minutes then failing to score again until 5 minutes before the end isn't good enough. |

You weren't beaten because they were far superior you were beaten because you were sloppy in possession and gave soft goals away in the first leg, if you'd have been just outplayed then yeah fair enough but why were they allowed to score from the edge of the box from a poor cross? There were four Arsenal defenders across the 18 yard box, one sticks a leg out and nobody closes the attacker down. Why was a Bayern player allowed a free run to score a header the 2nd in the first leg? Somebody should have been marking him.
Arsenal playing poorly then getting praised because they won the 2nd leg (when the tie was all but over by then anyway.) Too little too late. If I was an Arsenal fan I'd have been livid with Arteta at the end the thick twat. |

Obviously they are better but the goals given away in the first leg were basic defending. Arsenal are out because they shot themselves in the foot, Bayern weren't great over the 2 legs.
