So, was it a red?
I think so. A yellow could have been given due to lack of intent, but ultimately I think a red was...justified. Flying through the air, studs up at chest height, didn't check in front of him. |

Despite what Roy Keane has to say, I have to disagree. There was no intent, only a genuine attempt to win the ball, I see it as neither particularly dangerous nor violent.
I think the referee's went for the yellow card and accidentally brought out the red. It's the only probable logic. Game died on that decision. |

Should have been a yellow for me. Keane is right in a way, but only if he then says it should have been yellow. Red was insanity.
United were probably the better team for most of the game but such is football. Michael Carrick was the best player on the park. Absolutely remarkable footballer.

The idea is to prevent broken legs not punish the challenges once legs have been broken. |

Not a certain red, but a very fair decision to give it as such. A yellow would have been passable but soft. I think if it had happened in the last ten minutes there would be far less backlash about it, because football has a certain leeway for the affect the red would have on the result. But if oyu look at it as an isolated incident I think 80% of referees would give a red, 20% a yellow. Welbeck was the best player for me, he actually asked questions of their defense and created space. |

Wellbeck did well in keeping Alonso quiet for the most part but was unable to do so after Nani got his matching orders (which I still maintain were wrongfully given) after that Madrid just ran rampant pushing United into an even more defensive mode.
I thought Vidic and Giggs had really good games too - although there was obviously no weak players on the park and overall was a thoroughly enjoyable game. |
