The Olympics
I can't believe I, of all people, am the one to start this thread, but here it is.
Kicking things off, I have to say kudos on those opening ceremonies UK! I especially enjoyed the whole agriculture to industry performance. |

They were okay. All they did was cover one Beatles song, and they sounded like a decent Beatles cover band doing so. They were definitely upstaged by the dozens of cyclists with glowing wings emerging from beneath the stage though.

They played I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor as well.
I read that Frank Turner played a couple of songs before the official opening ceremony started. I didn't see any of that which I was gutted about. I did like the irony of The Queen having to sit through almost an entire Sex Pistols song

I loved it. The agriculture to industry part was definitely well done. It made me wish I was watching my granddad. I think it captured Britain's character well. I don't like how they're recycling the Vancouver Olympics song, though. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard for another country to write a song equal to or surpassing "I Believe," which isn't amazing, but it's memorable.
Really excited to watch the games, and happy for the UK for getting the chance to host the Olympics in this historic year (lots going on across the pond in the last while). |

i really enjoyed the opening....obviously loved the fact that Brad Wiggins opened them, really enjoyed the Queen living it up a bit.....the sets were crazy impressive....and as always Paul singing Hey Jude is heart warming....i esp loved the lighting of the tourch and the fact that rather than having a famous and important athlete light it....it was passed onto unknown youngsters who i'm sure we'll be hearing about later
does anyone else think that Phelps's defeat last night may have completely crushed his spirit?....he looked beaten in a very bad way funny that earlier that day Tyler Farrar (who came in 4th for the men's road race) said it best...."the worst place you can come in is fourth" |

I really enjoyed the opening ceremonies, and my boyfriend and I managed to sit through the whole thing.
So far I have watched some swimming and cycling. I'm excited for the tennis and sailing. I wonder where they're doing the sailing though... the Thames is not nearly big enough and the waters of the English Channel are way too choppy. |
