Yeah, that's fair enough and my bad for assuming England would be more comfortable, but that doesn't mean England aren't very average.
If our central midfield was two of Carrick, Lampard, Wilshere, Scholes and Barry we would look a whole lot better, and I would arguably play Gerrard on the right, because he has been useless anywhere else.

It's funny how during every tournament there are always people forecasting doom & gloom and how we're going to get slaughtered when we play the 'big' teams and yet we always seem to go out either to one goal or by penalties. I've been following England since the 82 world cup and the only game in a tournament I can remember us being totally outclassed in was against Germany in the last world cup.

I am not talking about England in terms of results. I am aware they are very good at doing what they need to win, but the players and football played is very poor, one of the worst teams in the Euros.

I remember that tournament like it was yesterday. Robson scoring against the French in 27 seconds, Keegan missing THAT header.
Happy days.

Also, we should fire our manager, who is still desperately trying to come up with excuses, when there are none. Everyone here was so fired up for this: flags hanging from every window and flying from every car, something finally to look forward to, and now look at us: the laughing stock of Europe. ZERO points gained. Zero. You'll never beat the Irish? No, you won't, not unless you're an even halfway decent team who aren't afraid to pass the ball and at least try...

England were terrible last night and it certainly isn't through good play that they topped the group. The simple fact of the matter is the other teams managed, somehow, to be worse than England.
Rooney was dreadful - quite how most of the papers are given him 7/10 is beyond me - and completely ineffective. Young was poor, yet again, Wellbeck offered nothing and Parker is miles out of his depth. Gerrard has been the best England player up to now by a long way. Hodgson fears to change the side as it may effect his own popularity with the media, so I expect Rooney will play again in the same position against Italy, whereas the sensible thing to do would be to replace Milner with Walcott, have Rooney play behind a front two of Carroll and Wellbeck, drop Parker and Young and play a 4-3-1-2 formation. |

...and Maradona kicking a Brazilan defender in the nuts and getting sent off. But the highlight was surely Italy's match against Brazil (that Brazilian side still the best side I've ever seen) being outscored by Rossi and then there was that classic hatchet Italian defender in Gentile.

Parker is so average, that's why fans have a go. Players like Busquets, Alonso, Pirlo, Carrick and Barry do what he does without having to bust a gut and are a million times better in possession because they have a superior football brain.

To this day probably the worst foul I've ever seen.
