Johnson is more inclined to join the attacks as this is his style of play, he's almost a wing back. Ordinarily, someone drops off from midfield and covers them when this happens. If it doesn't then, obviously, there's a problem.
Young has been useless up to now (his mistake led to Sweden's equaliser) with Parker offering very little either. Neither get half the criticism that Johnson does. |

Abysmal?
I don't know when you remember England ever playing like Brazil 1970 but that looked like most England performances I've seen. Good in some parts, bad in others. You don't top your group with 7 points by being abysmal.

I thought it was actually a very good performance, they went out and achieved their game plan in what was a pressure match, Ukraine should've had that goal but England have actually done very well with the players at their disposal, it shows how good we did against Sweden considering that Sweden have beaten France. We now have Italy a far better option than Spain and I'm sure France would agree with that.

I am a football purist, so England bore me to tears and the woefulness of some of their players just irks me when I am watching the game. I mean, Scott Parker was England captain a month or two ago... He is so far off International class it's embarrassing.
Saying England are typically good and bad in parts doesn't contradict my argument, if anything it adds to it. Having a few good moments, and being clinical when they come around, doesn't mean 80% of the performance wasn't woeful. Ukraine actually outplayed England. I know our players are of a low standard compared to the likes of France, Spain, Italy, Germany etc, but even I expected England to stroll through this game with ease. Not good enough to win the tournament, or even get to the semi's, but I think considering what we are playing with, they have done well. (although all five of our best central midfielders are not there for some reason or another, which does explain our awful midfield.)

I would expect England to stroll it because they are a superior team, or that is what I thought. (I will admit here that Ukraine are the only team I have not seen play a full match at the tournament)

They were very good against Sweden, had an off day against France and as you saw unlucky against England with the disallowed goal (had it been given could've been a very different match) Most of their players play for the top two clubs in Ukraine which normally qualify for the Champions League every year and Shakhtar actually won the UEFA cup a few years ago, so they are a good level.
