Best of 5, tournament play, playoff brackets or points rankings based on consistent performance and defeat of the competition - thats what sports is to me. Anything else, be it football or rugby or counterstrike or starcraft - If you're just playing for fun or recreation, thats a game, and the people involved can't call themselves sportsmen/women until such time as they engage in a competition of commensurate scale.
Nonsense, because "starcraft" or "counterstrike" isn't a sport, it's a product. All competition you're referring to is product specific. Sport, on the other hand, is not product specific.

well guitar this thread is very long and my time is valuable sometimes so reading the entire thing from beginnin to now isnt a reality for me. plus i dont like reading much

from what you just said i think you are just using part of the criteria that myself and others use. you are using competition, which i think most people consider a part fo sports. but you are not using physicality. i am using BOTH competition and physicality.

hip hop bunny, that is a really intersting point i never thought of

It shows. Regardless, if you're not willing to take in the entire debate, you shouldn't be part of it. Everything you're talking about was covered over the 20 something previous pages of this thread. I'm not going to sit here and go over it again and again so that you can repeat yourself at the end of it anyway.

Either read and take in the thread, and expand upon it, or don't. Just don't expect me to take you seriously if you haven't even familiarised yourself with the discussion.

sure thats your choice to discuss or not. im certainly not takin the time to read the entire thread lol. if you dont wanna discuss further thats fine by me but gaming is not a sport due to severe lack of a physical nature. gaming does not meat my criteria at all

The thing that separates video games from being true sport is that you need a console and electronics. The human body remembers movement patterns which are nessessary to become successful in sport. Something that does not happen whilst sitting at your desktop.

I would also like to point out that the definition of video game is this;

noun
a game played by electronically manipulating images produced by a computer program on a monitor or other display.

I think the definition speaks for itself really.

I was with you up until that statement.

The hand/eye coordination that gets built up over time is something physical that the body remembers and is also necessary when it comes to professional gaming.

My hand to eye coordination is excellent when I'm writing essays on word, does that make me an athlete? Anything on a console or that is stationary or uses electricity is not considered a sport.

Your hand to eye coordination can't match the skills of a professional gamer.

This.

Literally anyone in the sporting industry would laugh you out of their place.

The only people backing the notion that gaming is a real sport are the people who participate in gaming. I'm not saying that gaming is dumb or anything, I like my games as much as the next guy. I just think it's completely unrealistic and quite ridiculous anyone would even contemplate them being real sports and I actually find it quite funny when you guys bring up the risk of wrist injury.
