Surfing/Bodyboarding

Saw there wasn't a thread for surfing. So decided to make one on both surfing and bodyboarding.

Flatland skim boarding ftw when you live near the gulf of Mexico.

Hitting Trestles this weekend. Probably not gonna be this big, just a guess though. Peahi is the biggest freak of nature ever, what a beautiful wave. Brah.

Surfline, the best site on surfing ever created. Webcam setting for all of the famous and not so famous breaks. Up to date videos of current big and small wave competitions, anything WTC related. I never go a day without checking this site. Pure gold.

Trip to Australia is in order. Go Cyclops!

Thought you were coming out this summer Sean? The Wedge is calling your name. Don't be scared. :yeah:

adidasss 07-20-2011 11:33 AM

Let's say wakeboarding falls into this category. Tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and it was pretty intense. Took me a while to get started but it was crazy fun once I got the hang of it. Quite the adrenalin rush. Gonna try and do it again this weekend.

Something about wipeouts, they're fun to watch but hell to endure.

It only hurts for a few days. Then when you get old it hurts for the rest of your life. I'm on pace to be hurting for the rest of my life in a few years. Until then its full speed ahead. I advise anyone whos gonna pursue this to first try bodyboarding and to swim in the ocean for at least a few months before attempting larger sets. Will probably take most people about six months to be in shape to even have the speed to keep up with 6 foot waves and drop in.

Agree.

Found out a few of my friends took a trip out to Puerto Escondido. Kinda pissed I didn't get invited lol. Would have loved to have gone there. Also found out another friend is out in Cali chilling with his cousin who has a place a few blocks from The Wedge ****er is there and was in Hawaii over the winter.

Puerto Esconidido

Paul Roach is with out question my favorite bodyboarder. IMO he's the best DK rider around. Helped invent the layback. He is also a huge character.

Oh yea Fred Black's Beach? Been there?

Been to all three places. My dad and me deep sea dive out of Puerto Escondido its an amazing spot. I live 20 minutes from The Wedge in Newport. Been to Blacks about twenty times, not the nude beach part, we sneak in from the other direction. Nice break at Blacks actually if you go about a mile offshore. Paul Roach is a stud no doubt, but Guillherme Tamega is currently the best in the world. If i had to pick i'd pick Jeff Hubbard from Hawaii he is technically the most gifted.

I hate you.

Jeff is a stud no doubt. I'm more of a fan of DK and still think roach has the best style. Matt Lackey is another as well. **** there are a ton.

Ever gone to Mavericks lol?

Old DK video part

Fu Manchu

Gotta move to Cali, this is the second best place for waves on the planet, sorry south africa. I've been to Half Moon Bay a dozen times. Can't ride jet skis out so i've never been in the water, Mavericks is a ****ing killer man, if Mark Foo can't surf it and live, I know my limits.

For those who might not know the infamous Mavericks wipeout.

Buzzov*en 07-21-2011 01:41 PM

Def gotta move to Cali. There is a video of a dude who decided to boydboard Mavericks. The guy who did it is the one who uploaded the video on youtube. Said apprently the ride is too choppy for a bodyboard and isn't really a fun ride.

Not too surprising its choppy as hell on surf boards. You can see the speed wobbles when guys hit fifty foot faces. Place is terrifying looking. You have to wear warm gear 365 days a year and you still get sno cone headaches. I'm never gonna be good enough for Mavericks and i'm ok with that knowledge.

Buzzov*en 07-21-2011 01:50 PM

those headaches suck. All I deal with in the winter when it picks up here haha.
that whole Mavericks Crew (skindog, condor, flea, barney) are ****ing insane.

Buzzov*en 07-21-2011 01:57 PM

This wipe out was pretty nasty

Definitely a killer crew. Still amazes me that Jeff Clark surfed there for 15 years by himself before he could convince anybody else to go. Its an amazing and devastating break. I love checking out the winter swells there in person, its unreal.

A bit dated i know but this wave is an amazing work of art. Cape St Francis is another freak of nature, that blows the mind. Endless wave? So it seems.

they mentioned in the movie they had to cut almost 8 hrs of footage of just that wave, because it was impossible not to catch it and ride it all day long. The local fisherman said that its the same break all the way in from the fifth reef on in. You could literally ride it from about ten miles out into the shorebreak. I hope one day to go to South Africa and experience it and J-BAY.

Buzzov*en 07-21-2011 03:11 PM

Yea I wanna hit up Aus and South Africa.

Nike US Open of Surfing Day Final | SURFLINE.COM

Slater does it again. The best athlete on the planet? Maybe so. Never ceases to amaze me the way he can slot at HB and Trestles when there aren't even waves. A 40 year old machine, probably will be winning tourneys at age 50, and still surfing Peahi, J-BAY, Mavericks and Pipeline.

FRED HALE SR. 09-02-2011 09:57 AM

Went to The Wedge at Balboa Peninsula yesterday. Bodyboarded for about twelve hours. My body feels like it was involved in a car wreck. Gotta gear up and get back out saturday, this is once in a lifetime.

http://www.google.com/url?url=http:/...oWYyHw&cad=rja

Waves expected to be in the 30 to 35 foot range saturday. My thoughts are with the family of the kid who got drawn out to sea with the rip current. It was an amazing spectacle, Mother Earth is a powerful instrument.

Buzzov*en 09-07-2011 07:04 PM

Damn man. Gotta get out again. This winter should be nice.
