the hunter crouches in his blind
'neath camouflage of every kind, and conjures up a quacking noise to lend allure to his decoys. this grown up man, with pluck and luck, is hoping to outwit a duck.

I love fishing, even if I don't catch anything - but I generally do so that's not a problem. I do sea fishing (you have to pay a lot to fish in the rivers) and the south of Norway has a lovely marine culture which is a joy to be a part of. We like to go out in our boats, bring something warm to drink and just chat away while fishing. A minor highlight here is in early summer when great schools of mackerels come to our shores. Then it's easy to get insane amounts of fish, but I try to restrict myself to what I can actually eat or use as I'm not a fan of overtaxing. Mackerel is a great fish on the grill or in the frying pan by the way.
I also sometimes set out crab pots during summer although I figured I'd try setting some out this winter as well just to see how the catch is this time of year. One great thing about the crab pots is that if your fish catch is a bit skimpy, you just turn that into several crabs by putting the fish in the pots. Crab meat goes on white bread with some mayonaise and a squeeze of lemon .. It's lovely I don't do any hunting myself, but I might like to one day. I have friends who do it and even have a little bit of experience slaughtering reindeer. If I were to hunt, I think I'd like to hunt birds. If I was in the english countryside, I'd like to catch some rabbits, so .. I'd be most interested in small game.

Thread cleaned up. Stay on topic and cut the flaming attempts please. If you have something against hunting/fishing, please write a proper post and also consider doing it in the threads like animal cruelty or is meat really murder.
I might merge this with Thrice's fishing thread in the future.

Love doing both but haven't had the opportunity to go in a while. I'll hunt pretty much anything. I usually take a 30-06 and a .22 for whatever game I come across. I've fished fairly recently, but it was a bad time. No beer, fishing with my ex's dad, it was just an extended awkward silence.

I remember being about 8 years old and walking through the woods with my friend until we got to a creek, where we'd dive off of big rocks into impossibly shallow water and fish with pieces of corn and ham.
I caught more fish in that creek with that corn than I can catch now in a lake with pro bait. |

The politicians and the majority of fishermen in the world appearantly don't know evolutionary theory very well because the way fish resources is generally managed with net fishing is completely stupid. When you have a certain mask size that only takes out fish above a certain size, you induce a selection pressure to become smaller; to become adult (capable of sexual reproduction) at a smaller size. So, many of the taxed fish species, like the cod we have here, are getting smaller and smaller. You may have heard of the fishing collapse in Newfoundland and heard that there's no cod there anymore. There are actually. They just don't grow big!
