And so the world champions are held by a side which has only one full-time professional team in its domestic league, not to mention the first team to make the world cup finals with part-time players on its teamsheet since I can remember. Easily the shock of the tournament so far, unless of course North Korea can beat Portugal.
I really can't see NZ getting past Paraguay to make the last 16 either, but strange things happen in football (like Man U-Leeds in the FA Cup earlier this year), so I wouldn't rule it out completely. |

Wasn't this supposed to the the tournament that was favourable to European teams because of the time of year & the conditions?

Seriously though, I do think you can compare that to what might happen between NZ and Paraguay next week. It almost certainly won't, but there's always a chance that a team so far inferior to another can really get every aspect of its game together and humiliate a better-quality side - one of many reasons why I love football so much. |
