Having said that. A point from the toughest match of this group is no disaster.
serious questions:
Which of the above statements is most true?
Did America not lose because of their 'spirit & drive' or was it blind luck?

Come on USA! Great result, could have been more apart from Green's save from Altidore (although he did give us the lead)!
World Cup is the best!

What spirit and drive?
Defensively the U.S.A did a solid job, but be serious, apart from the howler from Green were you worth a point?

America were well and truly worth a point from that game.

I seriously don't know. I don't see it myself so I was hoping loveissucide will explain his reasoning. If the underdog US defense was responsible then maybe it's cuz they have more drive than talent?

With only 43% of possession and 4 shots on target...how so?

Don't get me wrong, England were poor tonight and deserved what they got.

England had more clear cut chances (although even then not many), but the USA worked hard and were very solid defensively - and also created their share of chances (hitting the post, some good set piece opportunities in the first half which they never took advantage of etc). And considering the number of supposedly great players the England side possess, it was a much more evenly matched contest than you would've expected I think - so America definitely deserve their point in my opinion.

England had 57% possession, but how much of that did they turn into really good chances? Very little - Heskey through on goal, Wright Phillips' effort (which was ****) and maybe Glen Johnson's after the USA goal... but not much else I can remember! They had some counter attacks which they wasted as well. They were fairly average overall, and a point each is a fair outcome from that game in my opinion.

What's important here isn't who were favourites and who were the underdogs.
A point gained by an underdog is worth no more than a point gained by the favourites.
For England it was a poor result and a triumph for the U.S.A.
But both teams will need to bring more to the table if they want to progress in this competition.
