Agreed! Spain owned. What a bunch of tossers the Netherlands team was was. That pivot guy really irked me both this game and the one against Brazil.

It seems that World Cup final referee Howard Webb can't win.
The Spanish team moaned about his lenience and the Dutch complained bitterly about his harshness. Personally, I thought he handled the match well. Had he been too lenient the bullying tactics of the Dutch may have won them the trophy. No victory for football there. Too harsh (or IMO to the letter of the law) and the match as a spectacle would have been reduced to, at best, a massive disappointment and at worse, nothing less than a farce. Did he handle it the right way, or what? |

Dunno why the Spanish are moaning. They did win the bloody thing and all.
As for the Dutch, they were lucky they didn't have more than one player sent off - De Jong's foul on Alonso was one of the worst I've ever seen. Also, it was at least a couple of minutes in extra time between when they didn't get that corner given and the Spanish goal, and they even got possession back in the build-up to it too. So, yeah, I wouldn't whinge too much if I were Dutch either. |

Incredibly the Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk had this to say;
"The match was marred by constant foul play which led Webb to book 13 players including the dismissal of Dutchman Johnny Heitinga for two yellow cards. "I don't think the referee controlled the match well," said Van Marwijk. |

Last two days I've had problems with my computer, but finally I can post the image I always wanted to see, which also represents some predictions made here:
WORLD CHAMPIONS!!! Regarding the match, I couldn't believe that team was the Netherlands. It seemed an especially aggresive version of the worst Camorra-style Italy (forgive the redundancy). Even Johan Cruyff has described it clearly: "dirty", "anti-football", etc. The Germans behaved like real gentlemen, before, during and after the semi-final. The Dutch were just the opposite. That's why I don't believe in "karma football". This "Rotten Orange" has nothing to do with that great "Clockwork Orange" of Michels, Neeskens and Cruyff from the 70's. I don't understand why some people (out of here) thought that a Dutch victory would be an "award" for Netherland's football history. Just in order to carry out a kind of "poetic justice"? Bulls**t. It's a pity that the Clockwork Orange didn't win a World Cup, but regarding style, the Rotten Orange is not a succesor to that team at all. Fortunately Iniesta was superb. Our best "punisher" of Dutchmen since the Duke of Alba and Alexander Farnese. Orange squeezed: mission accomplished. Now drink your own bitter juice, "karate boys".

All that aside Spain were the best team in 2010 as they were in 2008 and so fully deserve their victory based on that. Spain won 2010 with Fernando Torres well under par, I think had he been fully fit and at his best they would have won matches by a lot more than 1:0 Last edited by Unknown Soldier; 07-13-2010 at 02:43 AM. |

I was pulling for the Dutch the entire tournament, and despite my love for Spain - I wouldn't have minded a Holland win. But they were a disgrace, such great players playing anti-football.
