The third place games are never any good.

You just have 2 teams who can't be bothered any more who just want to go home playing in an otherwise totally pointless game.

In fact a lot of TV companies don't even bother showing them. It's only the past couple of world cups I can remember seeing them screened.

"Low on skill factor"? What on earth are you talking about?

You country stole a quarter of the territory of the world and claimed it for yourself. Let's just agree not ju judge modern football teams on their countries' pasts, shall we?

So did the French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Italians, Hungarians, Poles, Turks, Russians, Germans even...the list goes on, and that's only in Europe. In fact the French, Spanish, Dutch and German empires easily rivalled the British one for sheer size and, while we're accusing one country of being the only one to claim territories that weren't their own to begin with, how do you think the USA got so big?

I remember the last two play-offs being pretty good, free-flowing games, so it's possible. Uruguay aren't the best side to watch in the world though, so it's probably not entirely likely.

Spain or Holland, I have no idea. I think Netherlanders have been rude and rough in the field. Lets see who holds the cup high.

As opposed to a nazi regime that sought to subjugate or enslave most of Europe!!! Unless of course they happened to a be a very friendly country like Sweden.

Great Britain may have stolen large sections of the world along with most other European powers as well. Great Britain just did it better though, mostly due to their naval supremacy. The Germans tried to achieve this naval supremacy at the start of the 20th century and it was one of the reasons that led to the first World War.

Strangley enough, The Swedes despite their history of rowing around in longships, wearing horned helmets and making harsh guttural sounds, never actually managed proper colonization of other societies. It seems, a bit of pillaging was more preferible.

How on earth could you guys miss my point, I thought it was fairly simple. All countries have had dark pasts, but for some reason Germany are the only country whose people still have to take sh*t for it.

And what leads you to that conclusion? Are you seriously suggesting that a low-skilled country might beat Argentina in the World Cup (which up till then had been putting on a rather impressive performance) with 4-0?

From a European perspective Germany`s dark past is still relevant, given that WW2 was less than 70 years ago and there are plenty of living victims. Therefore, its no surprise that they are the least liked country in Europe. By the way, the above statement is nothing personal but just how it is.

The only other European country that has a more modern dark history like that of Germany, is that of old Yugoslavia (Serbia to be exact) but their atrocities were limited to their own country.
