Probably the player divide moreso than anything. The whole lot are a shambles whether the Gerrard thing is true or not.

It means, little piggy, that the story went round the rumour mill quite a while before the press got wind of it. Emphasis on, the press. Incredibly, not everything happens first on the internet! The same applied for when Gerrard stayed on with Liverpool after winning the Champions League. He wanted out, but the local gangsters were having none of it. Another rumour that proved correct over time. |

I've heard the thing about gangsters before. Don't know how some people can live themselves. What would they have done if he had have left? |

Hart
Johnson Dawson Cahill Gibbs Walcott Rodwell Wiltshere A.Johnson Rooney Sturridge 2014 squad prediction I read online today. Chris Smalling Micah Richards Tom Huddlestone James Milner Chris Smalling Frazier Campbell Lee Cattermole Frazier Campbell Are all predicted to make the squad, it'll be certainly interesting to see what happens with English football over the coming years. I don't think Frazier Campbell or Sturridge will get a look in, unless they really improve. |

^ Yeah, I read that article too. As you say, it'll be an interesting 4 years for English football. With any luck, we'll see a few of those players emerge in the Prem next season too. Adam Johnson, Gary Cahill, Jack Rodwell and, of course, Walcott and Hart have already impressed to varying degrees.
On another note, can't wait for the start of the quarter finals tomorrow. It'll be great if Ghana can do a frist for African football and get to the semis, but I can see them coming unstuck against Forlan, Suarez and co. Really hope Holland can get past Brazil too. |

I expect in 2014 a partnership of Chris Smalling and Dawson. Dawson being the tall, experienced one (30 years old) and Smalling being the younger quicker one to mop up. I think that could be a great partnership, I just hope Smalling matures like I hope he will. Last season he didn't show the promise of a premier league footballer, despite all the attributes being there (Tall, quick, athletic.) he reminds me of a young Rio Ferdinand. I expect him to show a level of maturity more suited to the premier league this season, and then really steak a claim next season. All he needs to do is iron out his mistakes. Evans and Smalling are both terrific centre halves, Evans really impressed me last season. Let's hope Smalling can impress this.

I'm not so familiar with Smalling, but as you say it'll be so uplifting for England fans if we can see him, not to mention any amount of other promising youngsters start to come into their own next term.
As for Wigan, I can't wait to see how Victor Moses and Ben Watson develop next season. Moses is a really nifty winger, can play well on the left (despite being primarily right-footed), has a goalscorer's touch to him and made such a good impression with me since he joined from Crystal Palace. Another promising young (English) latic worth keeping an eye on next season would be Ben Watson as well - he's been shipped out on loan a lot, so it might be another whole season before he might develop into an England candidate, but ever since he scored that goal against Arsenal he's had one of the top spots in my good books. I doubt we'll see much of a radical overhaul of personnel into for Euro 2012, especially if Capello stays (which, by the way, I think he definitely should) but, as we've said, we're in for a very interesting four years in English football history. They could yet be disastrous, but I'm just gonna hope for the best as ever. |

He made a few mistakes with Fulham last year, he just needs to learn the game. Learn what to do when under pressure, I have a mate who's a City fan and he was saying how bad he is etc.
I made the point of Ronaldo - both were a similar age (18, 19), both had a similar price tag (12m, 8m) both made mistakes in their first year in English football, only Ronaldo could afford to shoot instead of cross because of his position, Smalling gets exposed more. Obviously a bit of a weird comparison, but it just shows how players can develop. I expect good things from Smalling. Do you think the day will come where a Wigan player will actually stamp a claim in the England team? Imagine.. it'd be great for football, if of course they were good enough. I just can't imagine it. I don't expect Euros 2012 to be a different team. Which is unfortunate, I feel that the ""golden generation"" had their chance, now let's fuck them off. |
