The Fishing Thread
Growing up in FL, I was bred to fish. Large mouth fishing is my favorite, but I always enjoy a good salt water catch, be it Snook, Redfish, Grouper, Snapper etc...
My favorite setup right now for April/May would be my Abu Garcia Ambassador bait caster on a 6' 6" medium Trophy Angler Stimulator. I've been putting in 2-3 hours a day and bringing up about 15 fish with a watermelon zoom worm hooked via wacky rig. This is my favorite time of year to fish freshwater, as I have it down to a science. I went salt water fishing last week off a local pier, and only hooked into a jack crevalle using a light brown DOA shrimp. If you don't have DOA where you live (could not find them in CT) you are missing out big time. They are my favorite salt water artificials. Ill put some pictures up when I take some. What do you fish? |
I'm from Michigan, and we're sorta surrounded by water, so a Michigander that doesn't or hasn't fished is a rare thing. I would love to go salt water fishing sometime, but it's a bit of a drive for me to get to an ocean.
I mainly catch bass, perch, pike, and carp. In the spring I like to go sucker spearing, and my skills are so pro i was able to spear a crayfish once. Won myself $2 from the nonbelievers. I use a 7' light rod, XPS performance series(Bass Pro Shop brand). My lure of choice are plastic works and minnows, slightly weighted. I tend to go with Powerbait or Cabelas because they are cheap and do the job and bass aren't super picky. If I am in deeper waters I may use crank bait, like a diver. If I am going for pike, I put a steel leader on my line and use a spinner. Largemouth bass: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...X/SSPX1171.jpg And this is why I don't like using real worms: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...X/SSPX1226.jpg I think my biggest fish is an 8lb carp. I wish i could find the picture, but it's nowhere to be found. I wish I had the means to go out on the great lakes, there you find the real fish. |

i'd like to learn to use more baits but i dont have a lot of time and for the most part when i go it's kinda like get in, get what i can and get out---and i know where i can catch catfish so i just use the stink occasionally i get time to just laze around the river bank and experiment--but i never catch anything because of flooding i haven't been yet this year but here's a pic from last year http://www.musicbanter.com/members/c...re1184-001.jpg |

I used to go fishing every weekend in UK during the season, mostly carp, bream and perch. My best catch ever was an 18 lb carp on 2.5 lb line and a size 20 hook, took me 45 minutes to land it.

Sorry to rain on this parade, but fishing is like the worst leisure activity ever.

Wrong, you're obviously not married :)

I went fishing once. With my dad. Dropped my cellphone into the water. Never been since.
