Aussie Rules Football

What team do you go for?
Is your team playing well?
Who's going to win the Premiership Cup?

My answers:
1. Melbourne Demons
2. Nup, but personally I think they have improved a lot from last year (though they are still on the bottom of the ladder)
3. I reckon St. Kilda but I hope it's Geelong.

I go for two teams. Essendon is my main team, barracked for them since I was 'lil. But I also support St. Kilda because my family and boyfriend follow them and I end up going to a lot of their games!

1. Western Bulldogs
2. Going very well atm after a bit of a form slump earlier in the season.
3. More than likely Geelong but I reckon the dogs can win it, defs out of cats, dogs and saints though.

As an Australian, I can't say that I ever caught onto the idea of AFL.

Maybe if/when I move back there, I'll come to like it?

Blasphemy! An Australian that never caught on to AFL... how?!

Nah, I know heaps of people who don't follow it. Especially Australians from NSW who follow rugby or whatever instead.

Yeah it must be a NSW thing - I've always preferred league to AFL/union which is considered blasphemy over here. :D

I've lost touch with Aussie Rules so I can't really answer those questions apart from i'm a Demons fan. I really got into it a few years ago and went to a few games but since then the rights for it in this country were bought by Setanta which requires another monthly subscription for that channel so it was hard to keep up and I completely lost touch.

Thankfully Setanta went into administration and shut down so hopefully I can keep uo with it a bit better now.

The Dees are at the bottom of the ladder this year mojopinuk! :(

Are you Australian? Or just an English person who enjoys the sport?

Either way... Australian Rules Football is the best sport on the planet :D

I'm not Australian no, I am English but I do enjoy it. Yeah they weren't doing too well last I checked so I had a feeling.

Since Man United's dominance first started in the 90's we English are used to seeing the exact same footy teams in the top 4 each and every season and those clubs have definitely managed to establish a higher level of quality than the rest of the league so it takes a little getting used to the AFL. I know certain teams have had periods of dominance from the 90's onwards which might include back to back premierships but it seems pretty common to have different winners every season and for teams to have a terrible season one year and an incredible season the next, to far greater a degree as it does here anyway.

At the moment we really have 2 leagues. The top 4 and then the rest of the league. There is just such a great leap in quality between 4th and 5th place. I get the feeling that over there any team probably feels as though they can win, that they probably arent many teams playing for 4th and 5th place from the very start of the season.
