Purdue lost to VCU, badly. ****ing embarassing. JJ was the only one who showed up. ****ing choke artists.

OSU has to get through UK first.

ThePhanastasio 03-25-2011 10:59 PM

UK took OSU out! Yeeeeah, son!

I haven't shouted in excitement at a television this much in over a year!

debaserr 03-25-2011 11:21 PM

that was a great game. I was rooting for UK because I picked them...

ThePhanastasio 03-25-2011 11:26 PM

So the Elite 8 is:

Kentucky (4)
North Carolina (2)

Arizona (5)
UConn (3)

Kansas (1)
VCU (11)

Butler (8)
Florida (2)

...And I heartily approve.

Thom Yorke 03-26-2011 02:10 PM

Getting only 1 of the Elite 8 (Kansas) is a new all-time low in a very unimpressive history of March Madness for me.

crash_override 03-27-2011 02:33 AM

Disaster has stricken my bracket, makes Japan looks like a picnic.

stephen1181 03-27-2011 08:58 AM

Graduate of Butler University in 2005, so guess who I am pulling for in the Final Four??? This Final Four run has even been better than last year's I feel like. And it was definitely more improbable than last years. I hope VCU could somehow beat Kansas because Butler and VCU would be quite the Final Four game. But then again if we could get to play Kansas that would be awesome.

Dirty 03-27-2011 09:14 AM

I love all the upsets and this years march madness has been awesome. I can't see Kansas losing, I'd be shocked. But improbable things have happened all March so it's not out of the question. I love what Butler is doing. Great coaching, not a ton of talent but role guys who do their job and step up at the right times. It is amazing they are going to the final four again. A tribute to amazing coaching. Seriously, think about the recruits and facilities and all that stuff that big-time programs get. Then you have Butler getting to back to back final fours and possibly back to back championship games. it's awesome.

And just think the Butler coach signed a 12 year deal last year. Now yes he could leave at any time, but he could be there for the next decade, and make this program something really special. So should be interesting to see. He can't be a hotter coach than he is now, can he?

Any major program looking for a coach would hire him and pay him a ton. He seems to have a loyalty to Butler, it will be interesting to see if he does eventually leave for a bigger program and possibly more money. Everyone at Butler should bow down and kiss his feet when he enters the room because without him their basketball team isn't relevant.

Well there is some talent on the team as well. It's just not the coaching. In his postgame speech last night, Coach Stevens said he got outcoached, and put all the kudos to the team. Just saying. :)

Typical press conference stuff. Nobody ever takes credit for anything. It's true the players are the ones actually scoring and rebounding and getting it done out there. But without Stevens, Butler would be absolutely nowhere. A group of 2 star recruits don't just magically become great overnight and beat teams stacked with 5 star recruits without some great coaching.

I hate that. Press conferences and interviews are completely useless in sports. With the odd exception, everybody just has scripted answers.

Yep i keep holding onto hope that someday an athlete will come along his who is completely politically incorrect and says whatever he is thinking/feeling. Like a guy who comes to the podium after a great game and just says how great he played. All I hear is "my teammates put me in good positions" and stuff like that. Nobody ever takes any credit for themselves and it pisses me off. Every coach gets up there and says how their team "competed hard" and were "resilient," I just hate the same standard answers all the time.

I think it's why I've come to love Ron Artest lol

Haha I love Artest.

I don't understand why you have to hide the fact that you're good. I find NBA players in general are less humble than in other sports, but they still don't really tell it like it is. Lebron for example, he's pretty ****y, but he's still guarded in the way he answers questions.

I know in the NFL they have a class or lecture type thing that kinda teaches rookies how to deal with the media. I agree though, NBA guys are less humble. There are always fans who hate guys for being too predictable with answers (Tom Brady) but then they also get mad when guys like James Harrison criticize the commisioner or whatever. I respect Harrison, he's an animal and has spoke his mind all year about his fines and penalties.

Back to college hoops... VCU just upset Kansas :yikes: March Madness has been CRAZY this year. Butler VS VCU in the final four, who on earth would ever think that?? It's just awesome.

One of my step-brothers is a UNC fan and one is a Kentucky fan. Lol, I wish I was at their house for the game coming up because they'll be at each others throats. I'm pretty excited for UNC-Kentucky, should be a great one. Two of the most successful programs ever.

It's insane. Whoever has even a somewhat decent looking bracket right now should be renamed Nostradomus.

Thom Yorke 03-27-2011 03:26 PM

Craziest thing is that VCU even had to go through a play-in game. What a ridiculous run they're on.

I forgot about that. VCU

Here is the #1 bracket right now. Genius?

ThePhanastasio 03-27-2011 07:25 PM

That guy has to be a VCU student / graduate or something.

EDIT:

I also just want it to be known that if the University of Kentucky wins the NCAA championship with a team that everyone has said all year "pales in comparison" to last year's team and is an off year for Calipari's program...

I will probably drink an entire case of beer in celebration. Also, if they make it to the title game, I've already got plans to head to Lexington to watch it. My friend already has reservations, lol.

Bloozcrooz 03-29-2011 04:08 PM

I dont normally watch a lot of college b-ball but I picked the right year this time. Outstanding play from every game ive watched. I really dont have a favorite team as far as b-ball in college. I guess whoever the underdog is is who ill root for. Which is almost the entirety of the teams that are left. Again im not completley up to par on all the different conferences and college darlings. But im glad to see Vcu and Butler make it. UConn was pretty entertaining to watch as well but their a pretty established team in college basketball from what I understand. As well is their opponent. Kimba Walker seems to have that nack for delivering during crunch time. Looking forward to the Finals.

Bloozcrooz 04-02-2011 03:52 PM

When does the final 4 take place? Im ready to find out who the champs going to be?
Nevermind I see Butlers playing VCU tonight then Uconn after that

I really didnt have a preference in the VCU vs Butler game. It sucked that there had to be a loser cause both those schools shocked sports fans with their resiliency. Hats off to Butler for the win and to Vcu for making it as far as they did.

The Uconn game was intense to watch...ive been slowly becoming somewhat of a Kimba Walker fan. Guy is clutch and easy to root for...I dont know who to pull for in the final game. Butler's cinderella story or the electrifying play of Walker and the huskies.

Ill just keep updating my own convo lol. I see on Espns poll thst the nations taking Butler over Uconn by a small percentage but still. Im all for the underdogs pulling off victories, but I think im going to pull for Uconn. Again if Butler wins then kudo's to them as well. I just enjoy watching Kimba Walker play and hope he gets the championship.

Bloozcrooz 04-04-2011 09:27 PM

Uconn just WON IT ALL!!!

ThePhanastasio 04-04-2011 09:40 PM

I was so torn about who I wanted to win the championship. On the one hand, Jim Calhoun is a wonderful coach, and I generally like UCONN a lot. On the other hand, Brad Stevens has done great things very early in his coaching career, and he's really growing on me.

And then, of course, there was the matter of UCONN beating my 'Cats. Twice. So, holding a grudge as I am wont to do, I decided I wanted Butler to win it all - And though they didn't pull it off, I'm still not upset.

Kemba Walker is a hell of a player, and against UK, I was amazed to notice that when his shot's not falling he'll actually - gasp - pass the ball. Which is more than can be said for BYU's Jimmer.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that Kemba's less of a ball hog than the Jimmer, and I wish him all the best in the NBA. Kid's got talent.

Bloozcrooz 04-04-2011 09:45 PM

Didnt realize he spelled his name "Kemba" as opposed to how i'd been spelling it. Oh well..lol.

Thom Yorke 04-04-2011 10:22 PM

I was rooting for Butler. Ah well. Much deserved by UCONN. You knew they were going to be tough to stop going into March Madness.

Bloozcrooz 04-05-2011 06:00 PM

Overall I wasnt impressed with the play from either side. Especially in the second half from Butler. Man they were just having an off night. Nothing to hang their heads about though making it to the championship two years in a row.

Now weve got the NBA finals to look forward to and then...meh. Its going to be a while before anything else exciting occurs with no football.

ThePhanastasio 04-05-2011 06:16 PM

I'm already excited for UK next year - they're probably keeping Brandon Knight and Doron Lamb, also DeAndre Liggins and Darius Miller will be returning. That's four of their six which actually played. They'll probably lose Terrence Jones, though. And Josh Harrelson is graduating.

BUT, they have THIS RECRUITING CLASS coming in for next year. Four five star recruits, all of them in the Top 25 overall. And the #25 recruit, Kyle Wiltjer, is a 6'9" forward who just won the 3 point competition during the McDonald's All-American festivities.

And at the McDonald's All American game...

Gilchrist: 16 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal.
Davis: 14 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 blocks, 2 steals.
Teague: 9 points, 3 assists (but 5 turnovers - ick! Hopefully Knight stays!)
Wiltjer: 11 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal.

Not too shabby! :)

debaserr 04-05-2011 06:42 PM

my guess is that many of your rookies are gone. apparently this year's draft class is pretty weak so some so so players could get some decent money. if many manage to stay you guys could be god-like.

Dirty 04-05-2011 06:56 PM

The National Championship game was one of the worst ever, I actually turned it at points because it was just awful to watch. I felt embrassed for the sport with how bad the teams were playing, especially Butler. UConn didn't play great, they just sucked less than Butler. Even Kemba didn't have a great game. But Jim Calhoun wins his 3rd title and UConn did deserve it, they did play great throughout the last part of the season and then into the Big East tourney and March Madness. I was rooting for Butler but even though they lost, it's still amazing and awesome what they have done as a small school like that.

Kentucky, UNC, and Duke are going to be absolutely loaded next year. It's always interesting to see who leaves early for the NBA. In my opinion, the 1 year rule is completely retarded and makes no sense at all.

But yes, now time for the NBA playoffs to start soon and I am really excited. It's gonna be one of the best playoffs in a long time. The NBA has already entered a revival of sorts these past few years and it just keeps getting better.

debaserr 04-05-2011 07:02 PM

I <3 the NBA playoffs so much. there is so much good bball to see.

Yep same here, I'm gonna have to post in the NBA thread my predictions but I'm still saying Lakers over Celts in 7 again. Everyone I know prefers college and I see the appeal to both games but the skill in the NBA game is just so much greater. It's almost playoff time and every team is gonna be going full throttle for every game. Shaping up to be some pretty good 1st round matchups for once too. I expect most of the higher seeds to win, but after the 1st round is over with it's nothing but great, great matchups.

The thing is, Doron Lamb's draft stock is really low, and I don't know that he'd go when he'd probably not get drafted until the second round this year. Miller and Liggins are the type of guys who are going to play all four years - both of them are juniors right now and will be seniors next year, so I'll wager they'll stay.

Jones probably won't stay. I've pretty much known he was one and done from the get-go.

The thing about Brandon Knight, though, is that he's going to be academically a junior at the end of this semester. He's got a 4.0 GPA, and I don't see that he'd have worked so hard at getting superb grades and pushing himself academically if he didn't intend to stay at least one more year...because I think that he could actually graduate next year, if he takes classes in the summer. I figure UK has one more year out of Brandon Knight. I really can't see him going pro before getting his degree when he's so serious about his academics.

I guess not. Gone are Liggins and Knight, everyone else is back(save seniors and turkish people). I wonder what would've happened if Kanter played this past year.

College Basketball

Hi

I like your thread. It is very interesting.

Thanks.

jenurenazensis 08-03-2011 06:43 AM

Basketball is the most preferable game by youngsters in college days. This is the only sport in which boys is interested in.Most probably boys bunk their lectures to play this game.

debaserr 08-23-2011 05:56 PM

Sources: Bruce Pearl, ex-Tennessee Volunteers coach, to receive show-cause penalty - ESPN

This pisses me off so much. The infraction was so minor and 99% of other coaches wouldn't have the integrity to come clean about it. I guess that seals the deal: Pearl will be going to TV.
