Bracket talk, anyone?

Just filled out my ****ed up bracket. I suck. I called some upsets in the past like Bradley over Kansas and VCU over Duke... Now I constantly feel the need to ride ridiculous teams way too far in the tourney. A couple good years in the bracket game have gone to my head.

This year it's Utah State. There is no reasoning for it except for some stats I looked up, and a hunch. It would be "okay" - or at least forgivable - if I picked them to upsend TAMU and just end it at that. TAMU is a quality team and that may not even happen. But, for some ****ing inexplicable reason I started going and now Utah State is in my Elite 8. WTF?!

gotjuice 03-17-2010 12:45 PM

If they beat A&M they'll beat Purdue (if Purdue doesn't lose to Siena, that is). Purdue without Hummel=loss to the first semi-decent team.

Sad. But true.

pick a final four

Kentucky
Kansas
Kansas State
Villanova

JossB 03-18-2010 03:18 PM

Notre just got beat!! c'mon where is the march madness! :pimp:

pourmeanother 03-18-2010 03:47 PM

Anyone catch that Murray State buzzer beater? When they make that extra pass I thought time was going to expire before they could pull off a shot...

I watched on ESPN that this was a possible upset so I went with Old D on my bracket. I thought it was a good move, but so did everyone else im playing with.

So far I'm doing well with mostg of my picks, other than FL winning the first round. I did a family bracket, then a bigger 64 person bracket. In the big one I have Nova, Syracuse and kentucky beating kansas in the final. In the family one, went with WV over kansas, then kansas st and nova.

midnight rain 01-13-2011 12:35 AM

Awesome night, Duke gets knocked off leaving my Buckeyes at the top of the rankings hopefully! Though, to be fair, they're hardly playing like a #1 team

debaserr 01-13-2011 12:49 AM

ok ok I've seen a lot more games now.

pick ur final four:

kansas
duke
syracuse
pitt

ThePhanastasio 01-26-2011 09:46 PM

My final four:

Pitt
Kansas
'Cuse
BYU

Although to be honest, Duke will probably be in there, likely in place of Syracuse or BYU. But this is who I think is really playing the best, tournament style ball with the ability to beat the majority of others in the field.

debaserr 01-26-2011 11:38 PM

I'm already regretting my cuse pick. and when you watch them, they don't have any players that wow you.

Dirty 01-26-2011 11:41 PM

Cuse has been struggling so bad lately... Haven't watched a ton of college ball this year. Two teams that really impress me though are Duke and Pitt

No love from anyone for OSU?

Who else loves watching Jimmer Fredette? He's definitely got the talent for the NBA, he can create his own shots, unlike say JJ Re****.

Dirty 01-27-2011 06:14 PM

Fredette is really good. He'll end up being a Redick type player though. He'll be a 3 point guy off the bench for somebody. He can create a lot better than JJ, and has better handles, but it's still not enough to create his own shots in the NBA. He'll be a 1st rounder though.

Yeah, why wasn't the best team in the country mentioned?

I'd say he's way better than Re**** ever was in college. He's a point guard for one, which shows in his quicks and maneuvering.

I'd say Redick was definitely better. There's very few guys i've seen at the college game as good as Redick. Unlike Jimmer, Redick went up against top-notch competition his whole career, battling in the ACC. Jimmer is in the Mountain West and doesn't face the same type of talent JJ did.

He does have better handles and quickness, and he has a stronger body, but that's not really gonna matter in the NBA. He isn't big enough or quick enough to go to the lane in the NBA, he's gonna be a spot-up shooter, just like Redick. Redick's turned out to be a solid NBA guy, I am interested to see what Fredette can do.

ThePhanastasio 02-05-2011 07:17 PM

UK / Florida game right now.

I'm pulling for the Gators - only time I will root against my 'Cats.

ThePhanastasio 02-21-2011 09:35 PM

So, Bracketology is projecting 6 SEC teams for the tournament right now...the hell?

I'd give them four:

Florida
Kentucky
Vanderbilt
Georgia

MAYBE Alabama. Tennessee? God no.

In related news, the college I went to is looking like they're going to get into the tournament again! Yeah! Thank God for Kenneth Faried.

ThePhanastasio 02-24-2011 10:13 AM

Kenneth Faried is the all-time NCAA Division I leader in rebounds now, beating out Tim Duncan. His draft stock has jumped from first pick in the second round to just out of being lottery in the first. Really happy for the guy.

debaserr 02-24-2011 12:12 PM

re-picking final four for fun:

kansas
duke
pitt
st. john's

ThePhanastasio 03-06-2011 12:37 PM

Morehead State made the NCAA tournament for the second time in three years...and only the fourth time in school history! Go, alma mater!

I hope they get matched up with BYU in the first round. I really do. Jimmer Fredette wouldn't get any of those second chance opportunities if Kenneth Faried had anything to say about it!

Also, hoping Florida can pull in a 3 seed. And Kentucky may get a 4 or 5. Maybe.

I can realistically see Florida being an elite 8 team.

ThePhanastasio 03-08-2011 01:45 PM

Lunardi has Morehead State matched up with Florida in the first round of his bracketology. I am depressed. I can't root for both. :(

FaSho 03-13-2011 05:19 PM

I've created a musicbanter march madness pool if anyone is interested

ThePhanastasio 03-13-2011 07:37 PM

My Final Four, now that brackets are out:

Ohio State
Texas
Kansas
Florida (was torn between them and Pitt, but it'll be a killer matchup in that elite 8 game.)

Ain't twerking for me mayne.

ThePhanastasio 03-19-2011 09:00 AM

So glad my Morehead and Richmond upsets both worked out! And I've still got all 16 of my sweet 16 teams - usually I've already lost at least two at this point.

In the words of Charlie Sheen: WINNING.

Dirty 03-19-2011 11:31 AM

I don't know if I mentioned this a few pages back or not, but I'm taking Duke to win it all. I didn't do a bracket cause it's basically all luck and I never win, but I think Duke has the best shot to take it all. Best group of guards in the nation, by far the best coach in all of college hoops, and they have been there before. Can't teach experience and Duke has a ton of depth as well. I think the only chance at beating Duke is hoping to catch them on a bad shooting day.

Thom Yorke 03-19-2011 12:14 PM

I got the Richmond upset as well. I never saw that Morehead St. one coming though. The Southwest is already a mess.

I was so close on that Oakland over Texas upset too... 4 point game or something.

I'd say my riskiest 2nd round pick is Cinci over UCONN. So many people are jumping on the UCONN bandwagon.

Always like to go against the grain so I picked San Diego St. to win it all, with Ohio St., Kansas and BYU as the others in the Final 4.

ThePhanastasio 03-19-2011 12:53 PM

To be honest, the Morehead State one was at least 50% wishful thinking on my part. I watch almost all of their games, and MSU is my alma mater, so of course I love them and think they're great. Plus, when they were less talented and Louisville was more talented (year before last) they were only down two in the half...that's when they were a 16 seed and Louisville was a 1. I figured it would be a tight game, but ultimately, I know Kenneth Faried has more heart than 99% of the players I've seen playing the game on this level.

Thom Yorke 03-20-2011 03:16 PM

What a wide open year. Pitt gone, a few 11s, 12s and 13s winning, Duke and NC just squeaking by.

Faried alone put this on my radar. I am happy to have called both Morehead St and Richmond to the 16, but i just lost Pitt in my final sooo bracket is BUSTED. Time to just start watching as a fan... Arizona and SDSt. gooo!

My bracket is doing...okay. Lost two elite 8 teams in Pitt and Texas. On my bracket at home, I had Texas in my final four for some stupid reason, so I'm in second place in the bracket pool with my family now, by one point. Ugh. But Florida can definitely make the final four now, and I feel good about that...if they aren't ice cold.

Also - VCU is KILLING my bracket.

Thom Yorke 03-21-2011 12:45 AM

I'm getting killed. I have 9 of the sweet 16 and 5 max in the elite 8. All of my final 4 are still left though. You'd have to be the luckiest man alive to have nailed the SW Region.

debaserr 03-21-2011 01:47 AM

since most people's brackets are screwed by now, lets re-pick the final four with what we know now!

OSU
Duke
Wisconsin
Kansas

Title: Kansas over OSU

PS: Things are shaping up extremely easy for Kansas.

ThePhanastasio 03-21-2011 01:56 AM

Ohio State
UConn
Kansas
Florida

Those'd be my picks now. Although the way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if stupid VCU came out of the Kansas bracket.

But, yes. I have Kansas beating Ohio State. My title game is still the same.

Thom Yorke 03-21-2011 01:57 AM

I'm sticking with my original Final 4. That way I can say I'm a genius later.

San Diego St. > Ohio St.
Kansas > BYU

San Diego St. > Kansas

Kansas should be able to walk into the Final 4, but maybe that will bite them in the ass in the long run by not gearing up against strong competition.

pourmeanother 03-21-2011 12:40 PM

My originals: Ohio State, UCONN
New: Richmond, Butler
