I like the gym because the people on the exercise machines look like they're dancing to the music I'm listening to.

"It's brick outside": you are obviously speaking American, but I get the idea - I've been seeing on the news some of the extreme weather hitting North East USA right now. Stay warm!!
Yeah you get it brick is new york slang for mad cold. It was rough and reminded me a bit of Chicago wind/wind chills. I almost got blown over three times by the wind and I'm stocky. Good thing it only lasted two days of feeling in the negatives with the windchill.

I haven’t ran in 9 days due to slightly sore knees, I had a 5km booked for today and almost decided not to go but my friend talked me in to going. Finished with a time of 36:36 which is far from amazing to some, going the full distance without stopping was amazing for me so I’m over the moon
I'm good nice seeing you. Yeah, honestly I shouldn't be so snobby and gate keeping about people wanting to make s change in their lives for the better regardless if they keep up with it or not. Getting started is half the battle.

Great job on the 5k I always used to say that I would like to build up the endurance to finish a half marathon one day.

Yeah I've noticed that. I also set up in front of the tv that is playing Fox News so I can laugh at all their sensational headlines and the way they twist stories to panic old people.

I’m finding much more joy in running and do much prefer being out in the fresh air with gorgeous scenery. It definitely helps pass the time! You should book something if you enjoy them.

Thanks for encouraging me FETCHER, but I'm a long way from entering a race right now. Still, you've motivated me to start my easy-to-follow training prog again: jogging circuits round a local park. (Although "circuits" is perhaps misleading: it's more like jog half a circuit, collapse on the grass, limp round to where I started.)

Congrats on your non-stop 5 km run. I never managed to do that distance non-stop, and I never got my time below about 45 mins. Still felt a sense of personal achievement to have done it though.

Wow! That sounds even worse than I thought. It's never happened to me much, but it's such a weird feeling when you are being pushed around by something you can't see.

I know getting started is definitely half the battle, I worked in a gym and the January new year new me’s did really annoy me back then but it made my work day hell

I hope I keep this up and can eventually get to a half marathon and hopefully one day even a marathon. They’ve been dreams for a long time but I have never done much to work towards them until now.

Thank you! I’m just glad I could do it, I had some time off with a sore knee so it was my first run in almost 2 weeks.

I get you may not be prepared for one right now and want to build yourself back up a bit first but one thing I wish I had known earlier is how acceptable it is to stop during the race! Had I known that I would have booked some 5km’s or fun runs years ago.

It’s a great achievement just getting out there and trying to be honest Lisna, the hard work is motivating yourself during your day to day life. Regardless of it being intervals or a continuous run .

@FETCHER: I hope you are doing some jogging and that your knee feels ok now. After our chat here, I was actually obligated to try again: first bit of running since lockdown hit us here back in March 2020. I managed about a third of a mile, then a walking break, then another third, so not breaking any records yet.
A circuit of my small local park is a third of a mile, and on my first circuit I was already thinking about the pain threshold: some people say you have to work through it, but I subscribe to the more comfortable notion that you should pay attention when your body is telling you to stop. What's your policy? After all, I think you were giving out proper training advice when you worked in the gym; were you shouting, "Suck it up,you wimp", or did you have a more sympathetic approach?

Went and walked uphill on a treadmill, **** worked my legs but I am going on a diet (physically and financially).

Want to start stretching more too. I am going to stretch my legs and body.

Thinking of going to the park to run and walk before the school opens, I dont think we are allowed to use the park during school hours so it's either 6am or 6pm
