Hey thanks, that's useful. Now I just have to get off my ass and actually start measuring my food and I'm off! I got the scale ready and everything! Protein I can weigh, carbs and fats though?
And how does one do that when one's working and therefore eating outside though? Eye guessing?

You can read labels and work out how much you can eat per tin/packet/box etc, or batch cook and take meals with you in tupperware. Once you've done it for a bit you'll know roughly what's OK and how much of it. Obviously be careful what you're taking out with you if you don't have access to a fridge e.g. rice would give you food poisoning if at room temperature for too long.
Or you can look at intermittent fasting and have your eating window at a time when you'll be at home. This is fine provided you are getting all your macros. Mindfulness off here should know more about IF. |

This has always been your approach or just something you're trying now? Are you happy with the results? What are your goals, how old are you and how much do you weigh..?

How tall are you? You weigh exactly the same like I do. Ripped as in skinny/low fat or ripped with muscle?

![]() I'm 6'3 so a bit of a bitch to pack on quality muscle. I'd have to eat like a kilo of chicken every day for pete sake. So I take most of my protein via powders. Anyways, trying to eat a bit more clean with less carbs and more fish/chicken/legumes, I'll see if I can tweak my macros a bit more. I don't want to do all that effort in the gym for nothing. But I also don't want this to be my whole life, y'know...:ambivalent: :/

I'm on my third week of being back on P90X, which is a DVD home workout program that has been around for a number of years. While I'd like to work out more consistently on the 365, this past year I've been (1) too busy for it and (2) I got sick a few times [more than normal], which threw me off my game. That said, I usually pick it back up after I notice the Bart Simpson gut trying to call the shots. Sometimes you just have to say, "get out of here, you punk. Time to work that hard gainer nerd bod."
Diet P90X taught me how to eat and work out properly, and I still have the weekly meal plan in a binder, so everything is already mapped out to where I weigh everything. The good thing about weighing everything is that you can structure it to where you have very little leftovers, or waste. The guide's intention is variety, but by doing so there is a ton of meal preparation. I said fyck all to that and tried to mirror their food guide while eliminating as much cooking as humanly possible. I looked up all the raw info for whole foods, by calorie, so it's pretty close to the same thing. For example, if they call for a burrito wrap, I use wheat bread instead. If they call for tomato sauce, I supplement whole tomatoes. No spices and no pizazz -- it's purely a utilitarian diet, and simpler to store as well. I can eat the same thing every single week until my body's metabolism increases and it craves calories beyond the plan's design for cutting fat. Today: I destroyed shoulders and arms while boring myself with the ab routine. I can tell that I am going to need to up the cardio, so I've been doing some running as well. Did five miles yesterday. Really the end game is to get back in shape before winter crushes my motivation and I can go back to putting ketchup on my fries. |

![]() ![]() Swapped leg day with running today because I want to use that leg strength to get my cardio in. I expect to do this for the next two to three weeks to get to where I need to be, then I can work the leg routine back in as standard form. The main trail I go to is closed until further notice for repairs, so the secondary one I'm using is about 1.12 miles long. I did five laps of that, then later I worked abs, which I do roughly three days a week. I'm prone to skipping both legs and abs more than anything else, so I'm trying not to skip either. Just a little schedule shuffle is all. Not to mention that it was a nice, sunny day, so it was also an excuse to further that rotisserie-chicken afterglow. |

You don't have to train for a decathlon or anything. Even if it's as much as walking, it helps get you out of the house for a bit. Each time I start after a long break I get the shin splints, but that goes away after a few times of extended running as my body adjusts. And I always bring my tunes, so it's the best of both worlds.
