How long have you been exercising for? When I started out, I did one kind of exercise with 3 sets and a minute rest in between until I built up to 2 with no rest in between. This is all coming from a personal trainer by the way. So yeah, maybe you should stick to that.

I've been jogging and swimming before, but like now with weights and machines and stuff, only since june so I'm quite green. I'm seeing fast results though, which is awesome. :)

For the past two weeks i've been doing pilates and riding the workout bike for 30min every day. Feels great.

My exercise regiment has consisted of wrestling specific exercises, but my level of fitness is quite high, and my whole body is stronger. Right now, my daily routine consists of:
Cardio: Jump rope or 2 1/2 mile jog Hindu squats: 3 sets of 50 Hindu push-ups: 3 sets of 5 (building up) Unassisted neck bridges: 3 90 second bridges, ending with a "push-up" with my arms Crunches: 3 sets of 25 Frog jumps: 3 sets of 10 Going to be getting a gym membership soon, and plan on adding some weight training 3x a week to my routine. |
^^^ Hindu Pushups are awesome.
Don't do machines.... they're less effective than free weights. Resistance pulleys or whatever they're called are cool, but proper machines are less effective. If you're doing machines, say, with your chest 'cuz you don't have anyone to spot you for bench press, just use dumbbells instead. |
Trying to shed the consequences of being a lazy bastard.
40 minutes of elliptical (would prefer jogging outside by my ankles are unstable and prone to give way, so high impact stuff is a no-no) every day. Upper and lower body workouts three days a week. Core everyday if possible. Plus walking to any destination on my campus is somehow uphill both ways, so there's that too. |
I only like to run outside because I am rushing through an environment and that gives me a sense of accomplishment. If I were to do any other form of exercise (even running on the treadmill), it's no pleasurable experience because I'm not going anywhere. But at the same time, I wish to get in shape in other areas. So how would I enjoy doing other exercises? Or is it a matter of that I am just trying to enjoy doing something that I don't enjoy doing?
|
No it just takes discipline. Many people who exercise don't enjoy exercising. They only do it for the results.

One legged squats will be the death of me. My arms are still hanging off my from Tuesday in the gym. Trying to build my upper body strength up so I can do a push up and generally haul my own weight around. Yes, I have the upper body strength of a domestic house cat |
