Everyone I know hates the NBA. I love it. It's so much faster and so much more skilled. You see so many plays in the NBA that are routine, and if those same plays happened in college hoops the crowd would go ape****. The thought that the NBA doesn't have defense is a total joke.

Only thing I really prefer to college sports is the atmosphere. Because it's mainly drunk, college kids being rowdy and having a great time. I can't say a negative thing about tailgating for Penn State football games. Great times. But as for watching on TV, it's pros all the way.

I love college sports more than pro sports, its just alabama doesnt have any pro teams so im all college.

i'm not sure why not having a local team should keep you from enjoying the pros.

if you don't grow up having a personal connection to a team it can be hard to foster any sort of support for them. people feel an attraction to their city's professional sports teams because it allows them to share an identity native to their city's history. teams represent cities in more ways than one, and people readily identify with their team's personality, i.e. chicago sports = hardworking, new york city sports = talented but often disappointing, et cetera.

obviously. what about being a fan of the sport in general?

College sports easily for me. I assume we are mainly talking football and basketball, although I prefer college hockey to the NHL too.

I like college basketball better because I prefer the slow pace of the game, with the 35 second shot-clock, lower scores, the coaches, the arenas/environments, and drama that builds up throughout the season. The NCAA tournament is the best playoff system in American sports.

What can I say about college football? The passion of college football feels so real to me, as I have a strong connection with Ohio State football. The tailgating, the traditions, the stadiums, the fact that every game could be the end of the season, the rivalries--oh, the rivalries. The Ohio State/Michigan game IS my family's holiday get-together, not Thanksgiving. I get this fuzzy feeling every time I step inside of Ohio Stadium, and I just don't feel that way about the NFL. If you lose four games in the NFL it is an excellent season; if you lose four games in college football you are playing a bowl game in December and you have zero chance at a National Championship. You have to be perfect (or near perfect) to win a title. Oh... and bowl season! I love bowl season! Week after week of college football games.

The only professional sport I like better than the college game is baseball for obvious reasons...

I love college sports and professional sports. I support both the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Volunteers but I'd say if I had to pick one I would pick the Vols right now over the Eagles. I can connect with college more right now. I love college basketball. Nothing is more exciting than March Madness and the NBA is a joke. Everything is about money in the NBA and the games are rather boring. The atmosphere makes college so much better and I don't know how others feel but I don't like watching fast break fests which is what a lot of NBA teams do such as the Suns. I must say I love professional baseball over everything else though. Opening day for the Phillies is truly my new year every year. There is no time I look forward more to than early April.

debaserr 11-20-2010 11:51 PM

how can you pick the vols over the eagles right now. vick and your young offense is really fun to see.

the nba is a joke? could you expand on this thought? the games are boring? what? the 35s shot clock in college brings the pace to a turtle's pace. and who the hell doesn't enjoy a good fast break? they usually end in a layup, sick alley-oop dunk, or a wide open 3 attempt.

i suppose the notion that you love baseball above all else is quite fitting. i hate it with a passion.

Violent & Funky 11-22-2010 01:26 AM

The fact that you love the NBA and hate baseball also makes too much sense... :)

Yeah but every game in the NFL is a challenge. Part of the reason I don't like college as much is because of how many easy games are on a teams schedule. I hated going to Penn State games and seeing them kill youngstown state or someone for a noon game. You go a few weeks at a time without a decent game.

But I hear you on the rivalries... College is where the rivalries are at and that's what makes it fun
