I love pretty much all sports. For basketball, I prefer college basketball (then again, I live in KY, and the Big Blue Nation is far too enthusiastic for me not to get excited about college hoops) but I prefer professional sports for all others. Particularly football (American).

Also I'll add that college schedules is another reason I don't like college as much as pro. Every single week it is a test in the NFL to win. Even the ****ty teams are still the best of the best. Don't anyone fool themseleves and think that good NFL teams don't prepare or strategize against worse teams. It's a dogfight every Sunday. College schedules are a joke. Everyone schedules non-conference cupcake teams and can beat them just on athleticism and talent alone. It isn't impressive to play a division 1-AA team and kill them by 50. Like Boise State for instance. They play the majority complete crap teams and beat up on them. There's only 2 or 3 games a year that actually mean anything. Not to mention, once you lose just one game, your national title hopes are usually shot to hell.

good point with the schedules. not much parity.
and can college bball please go to a 24s shot clock? there's way too much dribbling out the clock in the college game. it annoys me every time. the only event that I would give college the edge in is their bball postseason. march madness is great fun while it lasts. then again, I love watching months of postseason pro bball as well...

Everyone I know hates the NBA. I love it. It's so much faster and so much more skilled. You see so many plays in the NBA that are routine, and if those same plays happened in college hoops the crowd would go ape****. The thought that the NBA doesn't have defense is a total joke.
Only thing I really prefer to college sports is the atmosphere. Because it's mainly drunk, college kids being rowdy and having a great time. I can't say a negative thing about tailgating for Penn State football games. Great times. But as for watching on TV, it's pros all the way. |

if you don't grow up having a personal connection to a team it can be hard to foster any sort of support for them. people feel an attraction to their city's professional sports teams because it allows them to share an identity native to their city's history. teams represent cities in more ways than one, and people readily identify with their team's personality, i.e. chicago sports = hardworking, new york city sports = talented but often disappointing, et cetera.

College sports easily for me. I assume we are mainly talking football and basketball, although I prefer college hockey to the NHL too.
I like college basketball better because I prefer the slow pace of the game, with the 35 second shot-clock, lower scores, the coaches, the arenas/environments, and drama that builds up throughout the season. The NCAA tournament is the best playoff system in American sports. What can I say about college football? The passion of college football feels so real to me, as I have a strong connection with Ohio State football. The tailgating, the traditions, the stadiums, the fact that every game could be the end of the season, the rivalries--oh, the rivalries. The Ohio State/Michigan game IS my family's holiday get-together, not Thanksgiving. I get this fuzzy feeling every time I step inside of Ohio Stadium, and I just don't feel that way about the NFL. If you lose four games in the NFL it is an excellent season; if you lose four games in college football you are playing a bowl game in December and you have zero chance at a National Championship. You have to be perfect (or near perfect) to win a title. Oh... and bowl season! I love bowl season! Week after week of college football games. The only professional sport I like better than the college game is baseball for obvious reasons...

I love college sports and professional sports. I support both the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Volunteers but I'd say if I had to pick one I would pick the Vols right now over the Eagles. I can connect with college more right now. I love college basketball. Nothing is more exciting than March Madness and the NBA is a joke. Everything is about money in the NBA and the games are rather boring. The atmosphere makes college so much better and I don't know how others feel but I don't like watching fast break fests which is what a lot of NBA teams do such as the Suns. I must say I love professional baseball over everything else though. Opening day for the Phillies is truly my new year every year. There is no time I look forward more to than early April.
