BBC Sport - Rafael Nadal exits Wimbledon after shock Steve Darcis defeat
Oh well! Also, I just watched a BBC documentary on Andy Murray called The Man Behind the Racquet, which I would recommend. Andy and Jamie Murray were born in Dunblane and attended the towns primary school. In 1996 a gunman that the boys and Judy all knew entered the school, shot 16 kids, their teacher and then turned the gun on himself in the schools gym. Andys class were the next class due to be inside and were on their way to the gym when the shots were fired. He has tended not to talk about it before. He has quite an emotional story and it's a good watch. It describes his childhood, wrestling with his brother (where he says they made their own Championship belts and when Andy, the physically smaller at the time, would win Jamie would only let him win the Womens belt), the school shootings, joining the tour, returning to Dunblane to meet the school kids and, of course, once with a golden postbox for the town as an Olympic Champion, US Open Champion as well as his diet, training, publicity and relationships with his friends and family. |

BBC Sport - Wimbledon 2013: Laura Robson beats 10th seed Maria Kirilenko
I like Laura Robson a lot, although I admit to not watching a lot of womens tennis. This was a really brilliant performance from her though. She was in control, dominant, picking off some really impressive winners down the line as well as a few beautiful cross court. BBC Sport - Wimbledon 2013: Ana Ivanovic beaten by 2012 junior champion World number 66 teenager Eugenie Bouchard just knocked out Ana Ivanovic, seeded 12th, in another upset that was also a pretty good match to watch. Sara Errani, seeded 5th, also got upset and Azarenka has pulled out due to injury, so the womens singles has a lot of room for further upsets. Dustin Brown, 189th in the world, also knocked out Lleyton Hewitt and that was another great match to watch. Its obviously been a long, long time since Hewitt was world number 1 and a real, solid contender but he had been playing some great tennis over the last few weeks, at Queens Club and in his first round match. Isner, Cilic, Stepanek and Darcis, who beat Nadal in the first round, have also all pulled out due to injury. Really exciting tournament so far! EDIT: Tsonga is also now out due to injury, and Sharapova, who has had doctors onto the court to attend to her, is currently playing on and is a set down. What is going on? |

Lucky number '13, obviously So Murray was almost upset in his quarterfinal by Verdasco. What a terrific fight back that was. I was on pins and needles at that 4-3 game in the 5th set. If he doesn't win Wimbledon now then I dunno what I'll do with myself!

Yeah his adrenaline was out of control. But this is such a huge moment in his career; not even a year ago he was having to sleep in his car while competing at Challenger tournaments. Now in that time he's gone from being ranked 200+ to 24 in the world (and rising, after this tournament). I don't think I could speak in my second language either, haha. It's a troublesome match for Murray, though, cause the only time they have played each other Janowicz saved match point to come back and win. Definitely a semi-final to look forward to
EDIT: Apparently Murray beat Janowicz in a Davis Cup round robin match in 2009.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy out out of sight players outside the top 200 or even 100 are with sponsorship financially, especially given he obviously had some talent with the his junior results. Should both be good semis, I just hope Del Potro's knee is ok because there's no doubt Novak will be pushing him to the limit physically.

Wowwwww. The Djokovic-Del Potro match was so epic, I'm shocked no one's said anything about it. So much heart from both guys. I really wanted DelPo to win so two guys would be fighting for their first Wimbledon title, but Murray-Djokovic is always a great match-up. May the best man win (and by that I mean Murray please win)!

It was an epic. Apparently it's the longest semi-final in Wimbledon history.
I watched it to mid-way through the third set, when I had to go out. I got a bus into town, and I did a couple of things I needed to do, went a couple of places I needed to go, and then finally got into a pub a full hour after I'd left the house, and it was mid-way through the 4th set! Always a sign of a neck-and-neck nail-biter when time moves so slowly. I'm really looking forward to the final today. I always love to see Murray and Djokovic match up. I was also feeling for Sabine Lisicki in her final yesterday. She's been great to watch this year and she was upset, even before she had lost. It was never in her control, it was always being taken from her, and she obviously knew that and started to get upset while the match was still ongoing. Marion Bartoli absolutely deserved to win. |
