On a good note, Brods only needs 17 more career wins to break Patrick Roy's old record of 551...

I love Marty. My sabres doing well so far 3-0. I always root for the Devils unless they are playing Buffalo.

What does everyone else think of ESPN's proposition? They suggested to cut the league down by 8 teams, keep only the northern teams and make conferences American and Canadian (11 teams apiece).

Honestly, I think it would be a bad idea as far as promoting ice hockey goes (hence probably why they won't do it), but as far as competitiveness goes, it's a great idea. I was in Anaheim for the 2006 series and NOBODY in Los Angeles gave a **** about it. Not only, but it certainly improves competitiveness within divisions.

It would bring a certain competitiveness, but at the same time its not like canadian teams are better than everyone. Its us Canadians as players that are better than everyone else.

agreed. canadian teams have a bigger rivalry with eachother than with any american team. Van/Calgary, Calgary/Edmonton, those are the big rivalries. Until the playoffs, we dont ever really hate any american team with the passion that we consistently hate the other canadian teams.

If that happened, candian games would be just as well attended, canadian fans just as passionate about their hockey, and americans still wouldnt give a **** (at least for the most part). I mean hell, most of buffalo's fans are from ontario.

This might be the worst thing you have ever said. The city of Buffalo loves their hockey and football...Especially hockey (thats the one we can actually win a championship at). Maybe I misunderstood, but everyone in Buffalo LOVES the Sabres, might not be as many fans stateside as opposed to the northlands? Please explain Jib.

Yeah, and they might have the shittiest fans ever. I've been at home games hosted by every east coast team and Sabres fans are BY FAR the most obnoxious.

Still can't hate 'em as much as Philly fans though.

But back to what I was saying, wouldn't that make rivalries that much better within Canada? You could foster new hatred for Ottawa fans.

Its because were not afraid to party before/during/after the game. It does get rowdy, but thats one of the greatest things about sports.

It was mainly an exaggeration to prove my point. It is true that a lot of Ontario natives root for buffalo as opposed to other teams (like the leafs) because of the proximity. All I was saying is that Canadians generally are more interested in hockey than Americans, so I chose buffalo, a city that actually does have fans (rare in american hockey) and stated that half are actually from ontario. It was only an exaggeration for effect.

Having cleared that up I hope, another reason I think cutting out that many teams would be an awful idea is that the divisions now make a whole lot more sense than simply Canada and American divisions. The two conferences and six divisions that exist now group teams by geographic location, which makes a lot more sense than grouping them by country.

Finally, if it was canadian and american conferences, it would again focus more on canada vs. the states, which is not what NHL hockey is about.

Got ya. I agree I like how it is now with Buffalo being in a majorly canadian division.
