Yeah he's a very good hiring in my opinion (obviously ill say that haha). It's the first major signing of a big time stats guy i think. His claim to fame, or atleast what I've known him for being, is that he's very anti-dump in. He's done some very good research on driving the puck in vs dump ins and itll be interesting to see if he gets any influence in that department for the leafs. Kinda looks like hes being groomed to be Nonis' successor, and it seems like Nonis didnt really have a say in this hiring at all.

Interesting to note that about a week before this, one of the better advanced stats writers was hired by an NHL as their analytical consultant. He can't name the team, but i wonder if it's the leafs and they really are going through this new wave change. Which is pretty crazy considering how anti stats theyve been the last few years.

It'll be interesting to see how this pans out in the Leafs' front office. Nonis has seemed so anti-advanced stats, but it sounds like he'll have to change his tune at least somewhat with this additional pressure.

They can let him go. I just want Georges back.

Georges was one of the best team players in the game. He wanted to play in Montreal. He was the main reason they made it to the conference finals in 2010 and he was a big part of the 2014 run. Subban didn't deserve the 2013 Norris. There are far better defencemen in this league than him. If Subban is asking too much then I hope the Habs don't cave and give it to him.

subban is top 5 dmen in the league wow

Gorges is ok but replaceable. subban is a franchise player. He literally turns Montreal from a bad team to a good one just by being on the ice.

Subban is not a top 5 defencemen in the league. Webber, Kronwall, Vlasic, Demers, Doughty, Chara(Maybe), Suter and Keith are all better defencemen than Subban. He's exciting to watch yes, but at the same time he makes major mistakes. He's more of a 4th forward out there. He has potential to grow which is his best asset, but for what he is right now, he is not a franchise player. Neither is Georges, but with Georges you know what you get game in and game out. You can rely on Georges. As a Habs fan a player that gives it his all every game is a much preferable to me than Eller who has a great game ever 5-6 games.

It's all a matter of what people prefer. If you like explosive high risk high reward players Subban is right up your alley. If you want a guy who will not change up the game, but stand his ground every game then Georges is the player for you.

The reward from low risk is to do the basics correctly. Keeping the attacking team away from dangerous areas of the ice. Risk increases the more you help out offensively during 5 on 5 play as a defenceman. When Subban is on his game he helps the offence in so many ways and hits those that dare try to get past him. The problem is he's not on his game all the time. When he's not on his game he losses the puck at the other teams blue line to give up an odd man rush and hit with his ass and misses resulting in the same thing. Now that he's sign for 8 years I just hope he has more good games than bad and continues to grow as a player.
