I hate Simmons. So many of these guys are just hacks.

I thought Callahan was going to get more TBH. Not that I like the deal necessarily, but the market value of top 6 forwards and top 4 defensemen when they're in their late 20s and hit UFA is absolutely nuts.

You know those players hate Gaborik for signing at that low of a cap hit. With the playoff run he had, I'd have to think he could have got more than $2 million more at the same term in UFA. I don't know if I've seen a discount of that magnitude for a trade deadline acquisition. Good on the Kings. Always concerns about injury history with Gaborik, but that's a terrific cap hit for a top line scoring winger on a contender for years to come.

The Bolland demands are nuts. Not only is he not worth that cap hit, but maxing out the term on one of the most injury prone players in the league is crazy. If Toronto gives him 7-8 years, I'd fire Nonis on the spot. The long-term cap situation for that team is absolutely horrendous.

High cap hits for short terms on the other hand are usually completely fine. I say that as someone who doesn't have to pony up the cash for a pro sports team, but in terms of hindering a team's cap situation, it's not a big deal when you don't necessarily have to spend to the cap like a team like Edmonton. Always thought Nikitin was pretty underrated.

Not to mention Bolland's has a career high of 47 pts. Like hes a good third line centre but good lord the bank hes going to make this offseason is insane. Like Clarkson last year. I just dont get it. I am hoping TO resigns him too just to watch the hilarity.

And apparently the Oilers are going to talk to Kulemin, Grabovski and Fayne. This is the most excited ive been in years haha. If they can get Kulemin-Grabbo (who apparently want to play together) wow that would be so awesome i would cry.

This is the first time I haven't felt great about Boston going into a new season in years. I don't think losing Iginla in particular is the be-all and end-all, but the domino effect it created is very concerning.

First, I don't think a lot of people that don't watch the team regularly realize how bad Eriksson looked last year. If you pro-rate his point totals, he had a 50 point season, which one may not think is so bad, but he was really frustrating to watch, and the type of game he plays may very well clash horribly with Krejci/Lucic. So much is banking on him rebounding and becoming a nice complementary piece on the top scoring line, and I am not confident whatsoever in that happening.

Second, the third line, which has been a staple of the Bruins' success ever since they landed Kelly and Peverley in their Cup-winning year, doesn't look nearly as intimidating. Soderberg is fantastic, but he needs someone that is able to finish on his passes. It looks like he'll be with Kelly and Fraser most likely, who aren't exactly offensive dynamos.

Third, the team is completely devoid of right-handed shots. I'm pretty big on having a decent balance for this, and there is none to speak of right now. Not only are there zero right-handed wingers (only Bergeron and Krejci are right-handed shots up front), but all of their top forward prospects except for Pastrnak are lefties as well. It's gotten so ridiculous that there have been rumours of Pastrnak, the 18 year old 160 pound kid, getting a roster spot with the Big Bad Bruins on a scoring line.

The East is still very weak, and I still think the Bruins are the class of it, but I don't think they can beat the Kings or Hawks without more balance up front. Getting Seidenberg back coupled with Hamilton progressing even further should be huge, but Eriksson not performing on the top line could create a domino effect that cripples them (relatively speaking, anyways), as there are absolutely no legitimate alternatives if that happens.

Ninetales, what are your thoughts on the Leafs new Assistant GM (big proponent of advanced stats)? Crazy to think he's in that position at just 28.
