Also, one of the big reasons I love the WHL is that I think it's the most entertaining $20 there is

So the Tips weren't playing tonight, so I listened to the Kelowna @ Vancouver game tonight (Vancouver lost 3-1 which helps the Tips) on the Kelowna station. The play-by-play announcer said over and over that they were coming to us from Downtown Vancouver. Now I've been to that beautiful city a few times, the Pacific Coliseum is in Hastings Park, which is DEFINITELY not Downtown, it isn't even Downtown Eastside (thank goodness), I kept yelling at the radio "YOU'RE NOT FECKING DOWNTOWN" but to no avail

Yeaa, the Pacific Coliseum is definitely not downtown Vancouver...Not even on the right side of the Lion's Gate !
Ive actually never been to the Coliseum for anything...Rogers Arena and BC Place are both absolutely incredible venues though.

^ not sure if there's a name for that area unless it's Hastings Park, I'd just loosely define it as Eastside Vancouver

BTW Seattle stopped Portland's 21 game winning streak, one game short of the WHL record.

Hope this link works to see the whole timeline of tweets but this is very cool. David Perron asking about hockey advanced stats. Good convo with mc79 who is also very very smart. Even tho he seems doubtful of its usefulness, I like to see him acknowledge that there's something there in analytics and he seems genuinely interested in how it works. Quality stuff |

Big move in VanCity, with Lou finally being dealt. Its unfortunate, I always loved Lou and looked forward to him as our number one for the foreseeable future. BUT, Id at least say Gillis did a fair job on the return...better than some of the rumblings at the end of the last trade deadline. I look forward to two young Swedish goalies pushing eachother. Lack has proved himself a solid NHL goalie so far in his small NHL resume. Shawn Matthias could be a solid 3rd line center for the future...big body, reasonably good offensive upside. I remember watching him win gold with Canada in the 08 WJHC alongside beauties like Tavares, Stammer, Giroux and Doughty.

I have mixed feelings about Luongo, he had incredible skill but could go through streaks when he'd lose focus. I still shudder when I think of him saying that Thomas needed to learn basic goaltending from him in the '11 finals, only to see the series blow up in his face. But when he was on Luongo was as good as anyone

Silvertips just MAULED the Kelowna Rockets last night, Kelowna has the best record in all the CHL and Everett just beat 'em like they stole something. We are now one thin point behind Spokane for the fifth playoff seed, which would set up a series with the hated Seattle Thunderbirds.
All this after being very close to missing the playoffs altogether. |
