Don't underestimate the power of the dead cheap Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel where you come from

). I now own a 30D, but a lot of those pictures are made with my 300D. Overhere you can buy them second hand for as little as €100 (about 125 dollars). There's pretty neat Canon lenses (i.e. 28-90mm) for prices as low as €50 (about 65 dollars).
It doesn't necessarily have to be expensive you know

I have a 300D lying around out of work.
I'm not sure how much it would cost to get it to the USA and I'm not sure if the battery charger works (230v here). But if you're interested I guess we could find out

If you want a newer camera, I must say I really like the affordable Pentaxes. Their pictures are a bit 'brownish', 'warm', but they make really nice pictures for the money they cost.
