Thanks for the advice. I'll bear that in mind. I have to learn a lot of things about photography. Technically and aesthetically speaking.

Since this forum doesn't (or does it?) support image tags with resolutions in them, I shall post the links to protect everyone from scrolling like a menace

(...)

Tip: Click them all with your middle mouse button or while holding CTRL. This opens the images in the background. You will then have all photo's open in a tab. Saves a lot of time compared to click, load... back, click, load... back...
I like them all. And the last ones look very familiar to me. Both windmills and wind turbines are typical of Castilian landscapes too!

Are you still making all this with a kodak compact camera?
Thank you! And yes, I still use my "old little Kodak". And lately a small Lumix too:

I especially use it to photograph large urban buildings, since it has a better focal length to that.

Yes, I know. But first I have to read some book to learn the fundamentals of digital photography and improve my basic skills.

Apart from that, did you know this kind of tripods?

Especially useful at parties.

Agree! It was a fabulous city! I lived w/ a host family and walked all around town. I visited Madrid too, and loved it. You're photos are wonderful! And I do love the 'new and old' look! And 'saints' & 'sinners', lol. Nice

So I've shot at diverse "photographic targets", such as a medieval Muslim wall (9th century) and 21st-century skyscrapers:

3.3 million inhabitants... including "saints".... and "sinners"...

...and above all, the sky:

A bit nervous to post here as a total photography newbie, but here goes nothing

These are a couple shots I took.

First is my dog, Riley.

Second, this is my brother, Eric

There's definitely some talent there
The stuff I could mention as 'flaws' are actually all about taste.
I don't really like stuff *just* chopped off. Like your brothers mouth (I would have stopped beneath his nose) or the Dogs left ear. I also think the lighting on your brother is probably a bit harsh. There is some hotspots on the left side of your broters face and the right side has some dark spots that really are just black.
But I love the use of light itself and the depth in the images is enormous. It's actually very nice

Don't learn too much. Use your feeling and imagination. You've already got what you need

I honestly never read a book. I just fondled around and read the manuals of my camera's. I did sign up to photosig though and that helped me to learn a lot. You might want to do that too.
But you will need a camera on which you can manually choose shutter speed, diafragma and ISO so you can make pictures the way you want to, not the way your camera thinks is right.
And I'm a Manual Focus guy. You may not be, I don't know

That's great .
I have some of those little tripods with bendly legs. Very handy.
And I'm waiting for a window tripod thing for car windows to arrive

Thank you! I totally see what you mean about the 'chopped' image. I actually noticed that too when I was looking at the pic of my brother. I was thinking of cropping it higher up like you mentioned, but when I tried it, it looked 'off' for some reason.

Oh I have that all of the time.
I edit a picture, crop it, change the lighting, whatever.
And then it looks worse than it did in the first place.
But I wasn't satisfied with the original, so I just throw it away.
You won't believe how many of the pictures I make I throw away

Yeah, when I take photos I don't end up using 50% of them at least, lol. I just keep snapping away and choose the best out of the bunch. Like for Christmas this past year, I took probably 250 photos at my grandparents house during the evening. But most I won't keep. I actually haven't even gone through them yet and I'm supposed to give copies to several of my cousins, etc :P
