A local wartime Christmas exhibition thingy that we took the kids to last weekend.
The lad is like his dad when it comes to history...chip off the old block. |

^Very nice and artsy :)
As most of you know, I've been living up in the arctic for some time and, while I've never had a really good camera, I did get some interesting pictures from up there .. I've got a flickr account where my pictures are all up (available in all sizes), so I'll just make the pictures link to my account there. If you wanna see the secret pics (pics with actual people in'em), just register, let me know and I'll add you as a friend. ;) Here's a yawning polar bear, picture taken at the north polar ice-cap. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1210/...d915a7a692.jpg This is what the polar ice-cap looked like from the boat in august 2007 when the fog came rolling over the ice .. It was basically just an endless ice-landscape, but the fog added that ghostly touch. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1299/...083410a043.jpg For some reason, I get the message I'm over my limit when I try to post more pics, so I'll continue in my next post .. |
Here we are in a rubber boat in front of a glacier. In the middle, you can see the boat "Stockholm" which is a lovely vessel to go on an arctic cruise with. Just after I took the picture, the glacier calved producing a thunderous sound and some rather big waves.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1290/...1f63f9e68d.jpg Here are some reindeer. Most animals around Longyearbyen have little fear of people .. reindeer, ptarmigans, polar foxes .. and so they hang around. For reindeer, settlements mean more high-quality grub and shelter from the wind. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3205/...cfd0ca085b.jpg Here you can see the colour of the tundra in late summer .. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3156/...8efb0d79a8.jpg And here we are on a trip in april 2007. It's impossible to tell distances on Spitsbergen .. Those humps of snow in the distance are big mountains, many kilometres away. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1180/...70d0540d5f.jpg Hm, now I'm getting more error messages -_- |
