TUC Voting/Discussion Thread

Please discuss what songs you think should represent a particular genre here. Want feedback before submitting? Post it here, too!

If there is some dispute about what should represent a genre effectively (less so what constitues a genre), take your discussions there. It's becoming very cluttered and difficult to process submissions through the other thread. So, henceforth, if you think something poorly represents a style, discuss it here, maybe bother a mod to add a poll every now and then, and report back there with the new track and a bolded notification: REPLACE, for my sake, so it's easier to process.

Thanks!

I think this should just be done Wikipedia style, with better information replacing the existing data as it is generated. Whadaya think?

How do you mean? I'm all for changing songs around, just wanted to bring the discussions here so we have a nice clean area to work with.

Basically you've just added the first song people have nominated for each genre. What I'm saying is people should be allowed to continue to post songs for each genre, and collectively the community should determine which song best represents a genre...

I only have two problems with that. One is that it will take quite a bit more time. We might miss the mark here and there but I'm fairly confident in our members to sort things out and make sure that the majority of nominations are accurate. I'm willing to give up a bit of accuracy if it means the comp actually gets released. Two is that I'm literally running out of space on the list. The maximum amount of text I can have over those three posts is 3000 characters. So I'm reallt running on limited space. But idk, it's a community project so every one can weigh in on this.

I noticed that Violent submitted "Dammit" by Blink-182 as a pop punk song, but I think that there are other songs that would better represent the genre. I think bands such as Screeching Weasel, Teenage Bottlerocket, Dillinger Four, The Queers, and Lagwagon represent the genre well, and maintain the punk part better than Blink-182.

These are what I have in mind:
YouTube - Dillinger Four - A Jingle For The Product
YouTube - Screeching Weasel - Cool Kids
YouTube - Lagwagon - Violins
YouTube - Radio - Teenage Bottlerocket
YouTube - The Queers - Ursala Finally Has Tits

I think The Buzz****s are the best representitive for the pop-punk genre seeing as they're the genres biggest influence.
So I propose either
Buzz****s-Orgasm Addict
or alternatively
The Undertones-Teenage Kicks

I'm gonna second you for The Undertones - Teenage Kicks

i honestly think the greatest influence is Ramones...i mean look at two of the major arguments here...and the two bands that come up in EVERY pop-punk argument....Screeching Weasel and The Queers...both great, fun silly bands who represent the concept of "pop-punk"...both Ramones Clones....listen to their self titled album....its all pop punk classics....hell listen to any album!

just wanted my two cents in

also i have to agree 100% with jackhammer....you need to remove DRI from the thrash metal category....i got my timeline a little mixed up and after some reading realized that thrash metal was before crossover and not the other way around

and Noefolk need to seriously be re-examined
