^better than anything Green Day or Blink 182 ever put out....at least as pop-punk is concerned....and from the 90s :)

If we are going for a more modern band but still one with an influence. The Descendents are always an option.

Alkalino Trio is possibly my favorite pop punk band but that's not a very popular opinion around here...

I don't mind Alkaline Trio but they're are better bands. Dillinger Four are my fav pop-punk band but I still think we should go with Teenage Kicks.

I'd never even heard of The Undertones until a few hours ago...

Eh, I don't know if modern is the correct label, but I don't have much stuff from before 1985. I have a large concentration from the late 80s/early 90s though...

edit: and if it makes you feel cooler, I just downloaded Situationist Comedy

Seeing as this issue has still not been resolved, I'm bringing this thread back up. I know The Undertones have recieved more votes in the poll, but if we were to compare pop punk of today to either of the two songs in the poll, it's a lot easier to hear the similarities between The Ramones and some of the modern examples I posted earlier in this thread than The Undertones. And Violent brought this up earlier: Blink 182 or Green Day. I think Green Day's earlier material is a far better representation of the genre than Blink 182. "Welcome To Paradise" is a fine pick.
