Literally have no idea where I got 'Disaster' from, but yeah, Grooves. Haha. They're sweet.

someonecompletelyrandom 10-15-2010 02:48 PM

Bumping this guy. We're actually almost done. I can take care of a lot of the Africana stuff, but we need some electronica specialists to fill t hat section out ;)

bob. 10-15-2010 03:14 PM

Melodic Metalcore

Shadows Fall - The Light That Blinds

someonecompletelyrandom 11-19-2010 03:59 PM

Added. We're almost completely defined for the Rock genre.

Sljslj 11-19-2010 06:21 PM

You put Sljslr as my name on the last song I submitted.

someonecompletelyrandom 11-19-2010 06:24 PM

Sorry, it's a bit of a hard name to remember :D

The Bullet 11-20-2010 11:40 AM

I'm going to try to define Pop. (And on that note, why do you have Traditional Pop Music? Isn't that the same thing?)

Michael Jackson- Billie Jean

and also, for New Prog

Muse- Map of the Problematique

bob. 11-20-2010 12:09 PM

i will second MJ for sure

someonecompletelyrandom 11-20-2010 12:42 PM

"Traditional pop or classic pop or standards music denotes, in general, Western (and particularly American) popular music that either wholly predates the advent of rock and roll in the mid-1950s, or to any popular music which exists concurrently to rock and roll but originated in a time before the appearance of rock and roll, and its offshoots, as the dominant commercial music of the United States and Western culture."- Wikipedia.org

Congrats, the king of Pop now has the defining song of the Pop section. :afro:

Paedantic Basterd 11-20-2010 01:12 PM

I am genuinely surprised that Radiohead is nowhere.

someonecompletelyrandom 11-20-2010 01:14 PM

If you were to submit them to Alternative Rock and get someone to back you up on your song choice, it could replace Disarm by TSP.

Paedantic Basterd 11-20-2010 01:15 PM

Then I nominate Paranoid Android for Alt Rock.

khfreek 11-20-2010 01:24 PM

Second the motion to replace Disarm with Paranoid Android

Everything Evil - Coheed and Cambria for new prog

We Are the Storm - The Dillinger Escape Plan for mathcore

Great idea dude :)

Alfred 11-20-2010 01:29 PM

Edit: noooooo, khfreek beat me to mathcore while I was searching for a good DEP song

Mathcore - The Dillinger Escape Plan "Fix Your Face"

someonecompletelyrandom 11-20-2010 01:33 PM

Well Dillinger made it, regardless :)

All added and Paranoid Android has replaced Disarm.

someonecompletelyrandom 11-20-2010 01:35 PM

So far I'm liking this comp a lot. Everything seems to be just the right taste for whatever genre it's prescribed.

Alfred 11-20-2010 01:36 PM

Yeah no worries, 85% of DEP's songs are perfect examples of mathcore.

someonecompletelyrandom 11-20-2010 01:41 PM

Added Townes Van Zandt - My Proud Mountains to Western

Freebase Dali 11-20-2010 04:31 PM

Hey Conan, you think you can add Progressive Breaks to the Electronic subgenre? And NuSkool Breaks as well?

someonecompletelyrandom 11-20-2010 04:34 PM

Sure thing!

Paedantic Basterd 11-20-2010 09:24 PM

Shame I didn't stumble in here until every genre I actually knew was already defined, haha.

The Bullet 11-21-2010 07:48 AM

Wait, Conan, why no Hair Metal? Considering some of the stuff that's on there, I think it deserves a slot.

Jedey 11-21-2010 08:36 AM

Bluegrass: Bill Monroe - Blue Moon Of Kentucky
Bakersfield Sound: Buck Owens - Tiger By The Tail
Rockabilly: Johnny Burnette - Train Kept A Rollin'
Be-Bop: Charlie Parker & Dizzy Gillespie - Hot House
Cool Jazz: Miles Davis - Boplicity
Soul Jazz: Cannonball Adderley - Mercy, Mercy, Mercy
Vocal Jazz: Johnny Hartman - Lush Life
Modal Jazz: John Coltrane - Impressions
West Coast Jazz: Dave Brubeck - Take Five
Jump Blues: Louis Jordan - Caldonia
Piano Blues: Pinetop Perkins - Pinetop's Boogie Woogie
Traditional Pop: Nat "King" Cole - Unforgettable
Folk Rock: The Byrds - Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season)

khfreek 11-21-2010 09:43 AM

I nominate Fire by Jimi Hendrix to represent Rock.

Also you forgot to add Dillinger, just reminding you

Insane Guest 11-21-2010 10:09 AM

Symphonic Metal
The Serpentine Offering - Dimmu Borgir

someonecompletelyrandom 11-21-2010 11:34 AM

Good thinking! I honestly don't know how I missed that. Hair Metal added.

Thanks for pointing that out. I got a little confused because of the double nomination I guess.

I'll second the motion to add Jimi Hendrix - Fire as the definitive rock song.

Paedantic Basterd 11-21-2010 12:23 PM

Lol, whur's Witch House?

bob. 11-21-2010 12:30 PM

Acid House
Spoiler for Psychic TV - Joy:

just watching these people makes me think i'm on Acid

Smooth Jazz
Spoiler for Kenny G - Forever In Love:

...somebody had to go there

Dirty Rap/Porncore
Spoiler for 2 Live Crew - Me So Horny:

this seems pretty tame now days....but just due to the exposure and controversy this stupid song caused i think it should get its dues....

East Coast Hip-Hop
Spoiler for Wu-tang Clan - Da Mystery of Chessboxin':

this song has more east coast accents than an episode of the Sapranos...blunt, to the point, in your face...the east coast

West Coast Hip-Hop
Spoiler for The Shape Shifters - Tabassco:

"keeping it fresh for the coast of the west"...fun, groovy, laid back, stoned...the west coast

Mexican Pop
Spoiler for Selena - Bidi Bidi Bom Bom:

Pop Rap
Spoiler for MC Hammer - U Can't Touch This:

yeah

Sunshine Pop
Spoiler for The Partridge Family - C'mon Get Happy!:

the sooner you all understand the concept of Partridge Reality the sooner the world will sing as one

Christian Metal
Spoiler for Stryper - To Hell With The Devil:

i again would like to see the genre "Neofolk" actually have a neofolk band in it...see here
Neofolk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

i think that Sol Invictus's song "Against The Modern World" truly encompasses this sound and the spirit

Alfred 11-21-2010 12:44 PM

Surely we could find a better example of Christian Metal than Stryper. After all, they were just a glam band.

How about Impending Doom?

Could go under Christian Metal or Deathcore.

dankrsta 11-21-2010 12:46 PM

I had a few suggestions a while back that have not been added yet, and nobody has objected them either. I didn't find them on the list - for kraut-rock, avant-prog and ethereal.

Here:
kraut-rock
avant-prog and ethereal

@bob. Since James and I supported you for Death in June as neofolk in the other thread, maybe you're supposed to make some kind of formal request for a change and link to that thread. I remember Conan had some similar idea when it comes to changes.

RVCA 11-21-2010 01:00 PM

Is this eventually going to be turned into an actual compilation? It would be so cool to hit "download" and have a song in my library representing every modern genre, ever.

Paedantic Basterd 11-21-2010 01:05 PM

If I'm being honest, I think The Beatles have to be somewhere in this comp too.

EDIT: And I don't think you can get much more manufactured than underage pseudo lesbians marketed towards perverted Russian men, so for that reason I nominate Tatu's All the Things She Said for manufactured pop.

Insane Guest 11-21-2010 01:54 PM

Folk Metal
Wanderer - Ensiferum

Technical Death Metal
In Death Is Death - Meshuggah

Speed Metal
Narita - Riot
