Basinski for certain. RYM files it under Ambient, Tape Music, Minimalism and Drone. I'd definitely vote to fit it on the list!

Thanks Ninetales! Definitely add that to the list. That also reminded me that I'd omitted the psybient subgenre.

Carbon Based Lifeforms - World of Sleepers is the stand-out album though Cell's "Audio Deepest Night" and Shpongle's Are You Shpongled? are up there as well.

Just edited my original submission to add the essential Wolfgang Voigt Nah Und Fern Gas box set. Starting to wonder if perhaps I should build a separate guide to ambient music as this is quickly growing too large for the original thread's project.

Decided to put together an essential guide to Modern Ambient music. My latest member journal entry covers the last 40 years of ambient essentials, encapsulated into two short video features and a handy reference list of albums discussed. Crushed into little nut Clusters and mixed with crispy flakes.
