Conan, I beg of you. Please find some time to update this. I thought it was really cool. I know you don't have a lot of time or what not, but it couldn't hurt for me to beg. Please!

Pete Fountain - When the Saints Go Marching In - Dixieland Jazz

Flatt & Scruggs - Foggy Mountain Breakdown - Traditional Bluegrass

Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys - Sugar Moon - Western Swing

Herbie Hancock - Spank-A-Lee - Jazz Funk

Art Blakey - Moanin' - Hard Bop

Dj Magic Mike - Drop That Bass - Miami Bass

Dizzee Rascal - Fix Up Look Sharp - Grime

Bobby Charles - Later Alligator - Louisiana Swamp Pop

Happened to scroll through and notice some of the recs I posted for certain genres already had recs.

Herbie Hancock - Chameleon for Jazz Funk - can't argue with that selection.

and

Clarence Henry - (I Don't Know Why) But I Do - Louisiana Swamp Pop - another solid suggestion.

Ambient music

I'll jump in. I saw The Orb mentioned but no dedicated exploration of the subgenres of ambient music. There's a bit of a challenge here, however - as most ambient albums operate as a whole piece and not as individual songs.

I skimmed the RYM charts and checked them against the subgenre wiki articles and thankfully most of the top results matched my own suggestions for key recordings.

DARK AMBIENT
Bohren & der Club of Gore - Black Earth
Deathprod - Morals and Dogma

DRONE
Fripp & Eno's (No Pussyfooting) - Side A - "The Heavenly Music Corporation"
Stars of the Lid, either The Tired Sounds of... or And the Refinement of the Decline
Robert Rich's 7-hour Somnium sleep concert DVD-audio album

AMBIENT HOUSE
Biosphere's Substrata and Microgravity LPs
The KLF's Chill Out
The Orb's 40:00 "Blue Room" single

AMBIENT DUB
The Orb's aforementioned "A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain..."

AMBIENT TECHNO
Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works 85-92
Boards of Canada's Music Has the Right to Children
Wolfgang Vogit (as Gas) - the Nah Und Fern box set
Global Communication's 76:14

TRIBAL AMBIENT
Steve Roach - Dreamtime Return
John Hassell & Brian Eno - Fourth World Vol 1: Possible Musics

AMBIENT POP
Air - Moon Safari

BERLIN SCHOOL
Klaus Schulze - X or Timewind
Tangerine Dream's Phaedra
Edgar Froese - Epsilon in Malaysian Pale

AMBIENT CLASSICAL
Popol Vuh - Hosianna Mantra

Can we do anything with the above list? Suggestions?

Hmm, with drone I think that we can add La Monte Young or Theatre of Eternal Music (more likely the latter). I think that Keiji Haino's "21st Century Hard-y Guide-y Man" deserves a place on it as well since that's one of the most unique drone pieces out there.

Are we just doing the more ambient side of drone or are you thinking of including the more abrasive side as well such as drone metal?

I absolutely rank Theatre of Eternal Music as the epitome of drone. But under the specific ambient umbrella I think the examples I cited are more applicable.

Curious, where does Noir Jazz / Doom Jazz fit into all this?

Any glaring omissions in my ambient-family of subgenre?

I don't really listen to much ambient, honestly. I offered my opinion on drone because that's one of the genres I'm most familiar with. Everything I know off of your list definitely fits. For ambient classical I could see John Cage's "A String Quartet in Four Parts" or Basinski's "The Disintegration Loops". Basinski might not directly fall under the classical portion, but with that piece I feel like it's the most appropriate place for him since that really is a landmark drone piece.

I also think that Aka / Darbari / Java: Magic Realism is the superior Jon Hassell album.

could add Space Ambient (John Serrie, Seirom, Michael Stearns, Alrakis, etc being some big names there) and Black Ambient (Gnaw Their Tongues, Trist, Abruptum, Moevot, etc). Also Ritual Ambient as well - Mondo Bungle would be the dude to give recs for that for sure, but Sigillum S probably fits.
