I nominate Fire by Jimi Hendrix to represent Rock.

Also you forgot to add Dillinger, just reminding you

Good thinking! I honestly don't know how I missed that. Hair Metal added.

Thanks for pointing that out. I got a little confused because of the double nomination I guess.

I'll second the motion to add Jimi Hendrix - Fire as the definitive rock song.

Acid House
Spoiler for Psychic TV - Joy:

just watching these people makes me think i'm on Acid

Smooth Jazz
Spoiler for Kenny G - Forever In Love:

...somebody had to go there

Dirty Rap/Porncore
Spoiler for 2 Live Crew - Me So Horny:

this seems pretty tame now days....but just due to the exposure and controversy this stupid song caused i think it should get its dues....

East Coast Hip-Hop
Spoiler for Wu-tang Clan - Da Mystery of Chessboxin':

this song has more east coast accents than an episode of the Sapranos...blunt, to the point, in your face...the east coast

West Coast Hip-Hop
Spoiler for The Shape Shifters - Tabassco:

"keeping it fresh for the coast of the west"...fun, groovy, laid back, stoned...the west coast

Mexican Pop
Spoiler for Selena - Bidi Bidi Bom Bom:

Pop Rap
Spoiler for MC Hammer - U Can't Touch This:

yeah

Sunshine Pop
Spoiler for The Partridge Family - C'mon Get Happy!:

the sooner you all understand the concept of Partridge Reality the sooner the world will sing as one

Christian Metal
Spoiler for Stryper - To Hell With The Devil:

i again would like to see the genre "Neofolk" actually have a neofolk band in it...see here
Neofolk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

i think that Sol Invictus's song "Against The Modern World" truly encompasses this sound and the spirit

Alfred 11-21-2010 12:44 PM

Surely we could find a better example of Christian Metal than Stryper. After all, they were just a glam band.

How about Impending Doom?

Could go under Christian Metal or Deathcore.

I had a few suggestions a while back that have not been added yet, and nobody has objected them either. I didn't find them on the list - for kraut-rock, avant-prog and ethereal.

Here:
kraut-rock
avant-prog and ethereal

@bob. Since James and I supported you for Death in June as neofolk in the other thread, maybe you're supposed to make some kind of formal request for a change and link to that thread. I remember Conan had some similar idea when it comes to changes.

Is this eventually going to be turned into an actual compilation? It would be so cool to hit "download" and have a song in my library representing every modern genre, ever.

Paedantic Basterd 11-21-2010 01:05 PM

If I'm being honest, I think The Beatles have to be somewhere in this comp too.

EDIT: And I don't think you can get much more manufactured than underage pseudo lesbians marketed towards perverted Russian men, so for that reason I nominate Tatu's All the Things She Said for manufactured pop.
