Blue Foundation - "Eyes on Fire"
When I watched "Twilight," one song in the soundtrack (besides Supermassive Black Hole!) stuck in my mind, haunting me a little. The movie only uses the beginning portion of this song, which is my favorite part. It features a grungy-sounding guitar and the singer's ethereal "aahing." That portion made me curious enough about the rest of the song to track it down by reading about the Twilight (2008) soundtrack. I learned that Blue Foundation is a Danish band that once included Kirstine Stubbe Teglbjærg, who I assume is the singer in the official song video (below). The video for "Eyes on Fire" is interesting to me because it shows a classically trained ballet dancer using a fraction of her skills to do dancing in a club in depressing-looking Chelyabinsk, a city I'd never heard about before: Quote:
The beginning of the song, the part I like, makes me feel as if it is about repressed emotions and something longed for, such that the situation as it is isn't quite right. I like this non-verbal part best. After reading the lyrics for the song, I realize the song is about chilly and aggressive self-protection, which causes the video to make more sense to me: Now I plan to look up the dancer, Masha Greif ... ... All I learned is that "Masha Greif is one of the best dancers in Russia and winner of The Golden Mask dance prize 2007 in Moscow." Lindsey Buckingham - "Holiday Road"
I was thinking of how amusing Chevy Chase is in those "Vacation" movies like "European Vacation," when I remembered that I always liked the happy theme song, which cheers me up when I hear it. So I looked up the song and learned it is by Lindsey Buckingham. And when I looked up Lindsey Buckingham (Lindsey Buckingham - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), I learned he "is an American guitarist, singer, composer and producer, most notable for being the guitarist and male lead singer of the musical group Fleetwood Mac." I had no idea that the song I liked from the Vacation movies was by someone who was an important part of Fleetwood Mac! This song makes me curious about others by him. Nasty Habits - DV8 from Tommy Chong's 'Far Out Man (1990)' Wish I could find this tune with just the music and not the movie dialog. . |
I discovered Mulatu Astatke whilst watching Broken Flowers. Great film and great musician, victory all round.

While listening through a few songs by Lindsey Buckingham to find some off the album "Go Insane," I stumbled on the following song by him, "Time Precious Time." The song struck me with its rapid acoustic guitar playing. The speed of the acoustic guitar creates the sense of time rushing by and serves almost as a foil for the meaning of the song, which encourages listeners to take all the time they want.
