This time around, it will be your songs in the comp. We're going to create a mixtape which contains the best Musicbanter members have to offer. If you want to contribute to the comp, but don't have a song of your own which you can send in, you can of course consider sending in a song from another member. HOWEVER! You should send them a PM and ask for permission first of course. We don't want to step on anyone's virtual toes.

Because having a members songs comp can and probably will constraint the amount of contributors, I've upped the usual limit of two tracks up to three tracks. Hopefully, we will have as many contributors as normal and generate much more interest. :)

So, send me your stuff!

Ooh, this sounds like a great idea! One question though: should we omit the name of the band from the tracks or use an alias or something? There are some people on here whose band names I know so it might make the guessing a little too easy. I'm sure others are in the same boat too. Some of us even (ahem) have band names that are the same as our usernames.

How about we don't do the guessing game, but just write a bit about the submitted tracks? We've done that a few times now and while interest does tend to wane over the course of a comp thread just like the guessing games do, at least you get some information about what you're listening to!

I think we could easily do both those things.
As people guess who submitted what, or which track belongs to whom, the authors could submit their little write-ups.

Excellent :D Unless there are any objections we'll do it like you've suggested.

I'd love to participate in this, but I don't really care to make a guessing game out of it. As far as whether people will get bored or whatever, I think members submitting and listening to other member's own created music won't be quite the same as a run-of-the-mill comp.

Just an idea, but how about everyone do a short review of each song in the comp and provide a writeup of their own song? That way everyone gets the benefit of varied opinions (which is really helpful as a musician) and provides some insight into what went into their own song at the same time?

I agree with Freebase. While the guessing game could be fun and make for a few surprises i think this is an opportunity for those members who contribute to tell us a little about what it is they do and what they have contributed to the compilation.

I think it'll make it a more interesting listen if we have that to accompany it.

In any case, I'm with you on the short review of each song, that'd definitely make each contributor much more appreciated or atleast give him an idea of what to improve.

My idea completely falls apart if people stop guessing, which has happened before, so I suppose yours would be the one to go with.

Alright, I agree that Freebase's idea seems pretty good. So far it's short reviews and writeups then! :)
