"PETz" - because the first time i listened to it, it scared the sh!t out of me, i was not expecting his screams

"o0O0o0O0o" - because it's only slightly unusual the lyrics are sort of strange but somehow with meaning and well he uses kazoos in the song and makes it sound good

Zarko, I tried downloading that album, but all I could find were short sample mp3s! It looks like there might be a link to the album in the downloads section, but all I get is a blank page when I click it .. Am I the only one with this problem?
Hmm not sure. I didn't actually DL it from there intially, found it on another blog.

Try this Download almanacco.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

Brenoritvrezokre - Uatr Borvuatre Zuerkle Droer: Bizarre band and song name, both hopelessly unpronounceable. Then as for the song? Pretty much a bunch of random noises put together in such a way that create a very dark and uncomfortable atmosphere. There's nothing normal about any of it

Sortsind - Blot: Another very dark track! For me, dark and weird have always been synonymous. This is probably because what's weird is something we're not used to, and what we're not used to or something we can't see/control is something we tend to be scared of. I LOVE dark tracks that bring about a feeling of unease and create a sort of "bizarre" response from yours truly. Just yesterday I fell asleep early and woke up at 1 in the morning. I felt weird, so I put on some dark music and it was somehow perfect. This is one of the songs I played.

Those pics are from the "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark" books. I had all 3 when I was a kid...in fact, I may still have them laying around somewhere. Some genuinely creepy stories, and the pictures were really disturbing to me when I was little. Still are, actually.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

Me too! I have the boxed set and the "treasury".. I don't really need both but I have them anyway. They really are perfect. I love the intensely macabre surrealism.. they're driven by feeling which I LOVE. It's kind of ironic because I loved them as a kid and now that's how I choose my music; I go by feeling more than anything else. Well, actually, that's all I go by.

Blurb time.

The Nectarine No. 9 - It's Raining for Some Cloudy Reasons
Back when I lived in Berkeley and had a bit of money in my pocket, I used to peruse the used CD section in Amoeba and pick up things based on nothing more than cover art or song titles. I got the album this was on mostly because of the title of this song. Didn't think much of the record at the time, but the awkward squonk of it has grown on me a lot in the subsequent years. This seems to exist in the space between the twee-ish pop of the band's Glaswegian contemporaries and a more Zappa/Beefheart kind of racket, which is a pretty neat little niche to carve out, really.

Jandek - Down in a Mirror
Jandek's music is pretty much unlike anything else I can think of. It's avant garde, but rather than playing with loud, completely raw noise, the way a lot of experimental bands do, he instead tends to be quieter, sparer and contemplative. This is a ghostly, longing song featuring (like much of his music) a distinct non-melody and an acoustic guitar going out of its way to avoid playing traditional chords. Yet there is method to the madness, which becomes more apparent with more listens--something within the drifting sounds that stirs you because it hits you in a new way.

after lots of deliberation, i decided to stay away from agonizingly weird tracks, and instead to share some offbeat and unusual tracks that are still nice to listen to.

Space - Spiders
Space had a few 'hit' singles in the UK after the release of this, their debut album, in 1996. most notable is "female of the species". all tracks are equally quirky, though this one stands out. it's the last track on the album, but it's only available on the Japanese pressing, so it's kind of hard to find. i love the singer's voice here, it really makes the song. of course, the lyrics are wonderful as well!

Welle:Erdball - Ich Bin Aus Plastik (Oral)
Welle:Erdball is a German band that composes most of their bit-pop style music on a C64. this track is a "remix" of one such song, released as a b-side on a limited edition 7" pressed in bright pink vinyl (along with a great rendition of Kraftwerk's Der Roboter). it's the only beatbox electronic song i know of, and it's wonderfully wacky. the title means "i'm made out of plastic", but beyond that, i have no idea what the song is about
