Favorite Film Scores 00-09
What are some of your favorite film scores of the 2000s? If you want to throw out soundtracks too, that's fine- but I'd like to keep those separate.
Probably my top three... Gladiator -- Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard Requiem For A Dream -- Clint Mansell Blood Diamond -- James Newton Howard I'll stick to that trio for now, to give others an opportunity to name some. |
The Fountain - Clint Mansell. By far my favourite of recent years. I loved the Solaris S/T too but it's quite mellow and understated too. There Will be Blood was another highlight but definitely something you have to be in the mood for.
Heartlands by John McCusker and Kate Rusby is a wonderful folk soundtrack and of course the S/T to the film Once has some wonderful tunes. |
The Fountain is great - big fan of whatever Mansell touches. Ohh, the violin. One that just came to mind in terms of both a solid score and OST was Into The Wild, with Eddie Vedder laying down some licks. Also should mention Lost In Translation OST - Death In Vegas, JAMC, AIR, Phoenix, and My Bloody Valentine all featured.

A lot of good scores this decade. Some films that come to mind concerning their original score:
- Amélie by Yann Tiersen - Mulholland Dr. by Angelo Badalamenti - Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain by Clint Mansell - The lives of others by Gabriel Yared I'll maybe name some others later. |
Mine would definitely be all three of the LOTR scores by Howard Shore. They move my heart.

I think these were scores, the first one definitely was. And they are both amazing.

The Punch-Drunk Love soundtrack by Jon Brion was some great minimalistic stuff. I've never owned it, but it suits the movie incredibly well. |
The soundtrack to The Fountain is on regular rotation in my house. When i first heard it I didn't realise that it was by the same chap who did 'Def Con One' with PWEI years ago!
