What Should December's Bi-Monthly Comp Theme Be?

That's the question. What do you think?

These alternatives are what we're voting over now, but feel free to come with suggestions for more themes!

edit :

By the way, the upcoming theme for November is horror.

LoathsomePete 10-17-2009 09:54 AM

I'd be interesting in a night driving one.

music_phantom13 10-17-2009 02:49 PM

Sweet, I like me some music to drive to at night. That appears to be highly favored. Are we skipping November? Cuz it's definitely only October right now...

Sorry, I'm lazy and I only read the first sentence of your post.

FaSho 10-17-2009 02:52 PM

No one else has voted Vampires...wtf? :(

Bulldog 10-17-2009 02:56 PM

Night driving sounds like it'll be a keeper, primarily because there are some songs outside my top 10 LastFM scrobbles for it that spring to mind.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 10-17-2009 04:30 PM

Nope, we're not skipping November - it's just we already voted for what November's theme should be so I've made a new poll for Desember. ;)

It's a bit ahead of time perhaps, but oh well.

November's theme is horror -> http://www.musicbanter.com/general-m...me-horror.html

sidewinder 10-17-2009 09:05 PM

I'm down for some night driving. Even though I don't have a car. :D

NumberNineDream 10-17-2009 09:07 PM

Tho I didn't vote for Night driving, I'm sure that should be a pretty perfect comp.

Farfisa 10-17-2009 09:18 PM

Are we gonna do a seperate Christmas compilation?

Yes, I think we should ;)

A night driving compilation would be awesome!

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-19-2009 12:42 PM

Songs that are exactly 3 minutes 45 seconds

i submitted a vampire track for the medieval comp (if you notice a lot of those themes can be sub-themes of other ones)

wouldn't work out all that great, cause people could just cut the song files up to match that (not hard to do)

Do it. Just make your own thread if it's not for this one

Guybrush 10-20-2009 02:15 AM

I prefer themes that somehow translate to the music. Most of the themes up there do so, but not all. Songs with the devil in'em don't for example. I think Night Driving does perhaps because I think the mood you get when you're driving - it's dark, it's raining perhaps, the street lights flow past - is quite specific. At least for me it almost always have something to do with a sort of nice melancholy.

Zarko 10-20-2009 08:28 AM

I think the best choices are the ones that encapsulate a mood rather than a theme. ie Night Driving or Maritime. They don't need to actually talk about driving or sailing to summon that idea. On the other hand, I think it would be fairly difficult to get songs to encapsulate a 'vampire' mood without actually singing ABOUT vampires, therefore your choices are minimised, and it gets doubly hard when most of your HD is full of non-vocal albums :p:

I voted drugs but what exactly are the characteristics of a song you would listen to while driving at night?

That's ultimately up to each contributor of course. One thing which is nice about these loosely defined mood comps is you sometimes get some interesting ideas that perhaps you wouldn't have thought of yourself. There were definetly some surprises on the cyberpunk comp from last month.

When I drive at night, I like to listen to music which is somewhat soothing and melancholic. It would be interesting to see what other people would think of.

+81 10-20-2009 09:48 PM

I think night driving has potential to be a great comp. Everyone has those moments listening to music that just makes you say "this would be perfect while driving at night".

Aside from that I still have my fingers crossed for maritime or 1001 nights.

Stone Birds 10-24-2009 10:39 AM

So... can we go ahead and submit for Night-Driving even though November hasn't came with it's horror comp?

Edit: also can we submit instrumentals? (i'm not sure if i will, but i'm just wonderin')

+81 10-24-2009 12:31 PM

If the song feels appropriate I don't see why you couldn't.

Guybrush 10-25-2009 04:47 AM

You can submit anything you think fits the idea. I'd rather you wait a bit with submissions for desember's comp, though. Although we seem to have a winner already, the poll will be running until november 15th, the deadline of the november comp. After that, I'll accept submissions for the desember compilation!

Farfisa 10-25-2009 05:08 AM

Yeah man, I'm down for the "Night Driving" Theme.
