Bi-Monthly : Cyberpunk Compilation September 2009!
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/9393/mbcyberpunk.jpg Tracklist
Yep, our cyberpunk compilation is up. Listening to it, it seems people's ideas or associations with cyberpunk differ and the end result is a more diverse compilation that I first thought it would be. Potentially, there's something here for when you're doing your space travels, when you're hacking through the corporations security, when you're out clubbing, when you're flying over the neon lighted cityscape in your hovercar and possibly something for when you're trying to escape that gang of rabid replicants on your tail. Because most of us have probably tried to choose something we think would fit a certain concept, I'm thinking the guessing game on who submitted who will be a lot harder than it is with the non-themed comps. However, it's traditional so I guess people wanna give it a try. I'm quite intrigued by some of the choices here so when you're found out, could you write a bit about your track and why you chose it? Contributors Those in bold are found out and got their submitted track next to their name!
I have two tracks in this one. Sorry ;) Anyways, hook yourself up! http://igargoyle.com/archives/101-Cyborg.jpg |
Downloading now :thumb:
Still haven't got round to the other one yet, but I'll make sure I give them both a good listen before I leave tomorrow, if not later today. Great job with the artwork btw. |

How did i know Billy Idol would feature?
|
I'll actually be going on a week's vacation to Crete this saturday, so I may not be around to comment people's guesses.
|
Right out of the gate here I'm going to guess that Skinny Puppy is Sidewinder and Bowie is Bulldog.

I'm gonna hazard a guess at Alfred's being the Dillinger Escape Flan. I'll come back with more pot shots when I've actually listened to it. |
Lol, not even downloaded yet and I'm found out. :p: But I knew that would happen and told toretorden when I submitted it that I'd probably be one of the first to be found out. I just didn't spend that much time reading through lyrics to find appropriate songs, and ran out of time.
Downloading now but won't be able to listen till this evening because I'm rushing off to work in a few minutes. |
I'm going to go out on a limb and say Muzak submitted Strapping Young Lad.

to me the song is so dark and angry, it reminds me of the gritty aspect of this cyberpunk theme. The industrial aspect just shows well the futuristic feel of the theme. Even though the song I think is about how much Devy hates Steve Vai, I think it can easily be interpreted as a general hate towards society or a group of people, giving a bit of that punk attitude. |
Surprised to see the locust on this list
|
Wow, some good guessing here already :p: Alfred and Muzak are busted!
|
Huh, I am absolutely amazed about something. I'm fairly sure a lot of people on musicbanter like Deltron; I was going to put Virus in but I was pretty sure someone else was going to use it. I mean, it pretty much is the definition. But that's alright, because I found a better song instead. And I'll get to hear some new stuff.

I don't know why but I have a sneaking suspicion that music_phantom13 submitted the Rain at Ohm track "Broodhaa"
|
I'm guessing the Ayreon track belongs to Anteater.
|
Tracks 4 and 10 Toretorden
Track 11 Janszoon |

Is the Fear Factory song from you? |

|
Janzoon did you submit the "Cloudy, Since You Went Away" song by The Caretaker?

Damn we're flying through this big time. It sucks I haven't even been able to play it yet.
|
The Juno Reactor - God is God (Front 242 Godzilla Mix) is of course a Front 242 mix of a Juno Reactor classic. The original is slower and more middle eastern inspired. I think Front 242's mix is a lot more cyberpunky. It's quite action-y I think.
I chose Passengers not just because it's a cyberpunky song (it's also played when the credits roll in famous Ghost in the Shell cyberpunk anime) but also because I thought it might surprise some who don't know that Passengers is the name of the U2 + Brian Eno collaboration. I regard it as having above average curiosity potential. :p: |
Skinny Puppy lyrics. This is how they are printed in the CD insert, not easy to read. :D But his lyrical style has always been very stream of consciousness, so it's difficult to format.

Whoever submitted the Rain at Ohm song, this track is fucking amazing. My favorite on the comp so far.
Was it Zarko? |
I'm guess that music_phantom13 submitted Ayreon and that Zarko put in The Caretaker. :P
Also, this is a damn good compilation. The Billy Idol, Juno Reactor and the Nujabes tracks especially really set the mood! |
Ooh, the Caretaker song is really good too!
|
Janszoon, your Zarko guess was wrong and Anteater was wrong about music_phantom13 for Ayreon ..
But was right about Zarko submitting the Caretaker track! That song was quite weird and a pleasant surprise. It reminds me slightly of how they use the old "One More Kiss Dear" song in the Blade Runner movie or how they've used various old songs (especially Louis Armstrong) in the Fallout series. edit : To make it a bit easier for you guys, those who have not yet been found out are :
And the tracks are :
|
Anteater = Rain at Ohm
music phantom = Rocket USA? |
^Sorry!
Seems the last ones might be a bit hard. Elimination method will help though. :p: |

I've been had! Interestingly enough, I had a Suicide song on my comp before I realized we only had to submit one track.
|
Is the Suicide track Piss Me Off?
