Dark cabaret is a music genre that blends the aesthetics of the decadent, risqué German Weimar-era cabarets and 1920s burlesque and vaudeville shows with the morbid, gloomy stylings of post-1970s-goth culture, gothic rock, punk, deathrock, and darkwave music. Dark cabaret music usually features passionate, deep female or male vocals, in a style influenced by Marlene Dietrich’s singing or the singing in a Kurt Weill operetta. That is pretty much the best way to describe this style of music. It is set up a lot like a show you'd expect to see live in some theater. There's often a lot of dark humor in the songs, which just add to the live element. While there's often a lot of studio musician work for each song, for a style like this it really works well. If you can get past the odd demeanor and some of the stereotypical voices, there's quite a lot to this almost unheard of genre. Hopefully with this mix it will attract the attention of some people and create new fans.
