The Beginner’s Guide to…

I’ve been in a relaxed mood recently, which eventually led me to regain my feverous adoration for Bowery Electric, a New York shoegaze/trip hop duo. Martha Schwendener acts as lead vocalist and bassist whilst Lawrence Chandler acts as lead guitarist. After failing to have a successful drummer hold his place in the line up, the duo eventually forewent gaining a consistent drummer. There really isn’t too much more to say. Soaring fuzzed out guitar lines lead into healthily subdued beats and ambient goodness. Anyone looking for a band to listen to whilst sinking into your chair, this is definitely one to check out. Sure, Massive Attack, Portishead have done it before, but when it’s this good, who cares? All this at only 57 megabytes!

1) Fear Of Flying (From Beat)
2) Long Way Down (From Bowery Electric)
3) Freedom Fighter (From Lushlife)
4) Head On Fire (From Untitled)
5) Shook One (From Lushlife)
6) Beat (From Beat)
7) Let Me Down (From Untitled)
8) Over And Over (From Bowery Electric)

If you find yourself liking, start with their 1997 release, ‘Beat’, the apex of their output.

Fucking hell, Mediafire has been terrible the last few days. So this is coming to you in all of Megaupload's glory.

That's great, thanks! :)

I'm listening to trip-hop & ambient & something mix.
I know Morcheeba, I like it now but I loved it with voice of Skye. Without her... hmm... it's not so good for me.
Other artists in this mix... It gave me some inspiration and I think I will try something more from Air, Hooverphonic, Kosheen. It seems I like Air the most.

Moon Safari

I share similar thoughts on morcheeba to be honest.

They have some great tracks but there is alot of filler to go through.

Has anybody d/l my hip hop comp yet, if so id love some feedback even if its negative.

Ok, so I will start with Air with album Moon Safari :D

Morcheeba... My favourite album is Charango, I can listen to all this album. From other I prefer only some tracks.

And hip hop? I'm sorry, but somehow I don't understand this genre although I listen almost everything.

I am going to download Massive Attack. (And also U2 and R.E.M. although I know them (and mostly like them) but don't have all discography.)

(shameless self promotion ahead)

If you want to get into R.E.M., I recommend reading my thread in which I review their discography! Send me a PM if you want any links too. The thread is in my signature.

:D

You really should give hip hop a go if you listen to anything. Whats brilliant about hip hop is the diversity of the music. The beats can can come from almost anywhere and there is enormous diversity from one act to the next.

It took me along time to get it, but once you do its well worth it. A good Mc over a dope beat gives a similar sense of euphoria to a great guitar solo imo.

Well, ALMOST anything. My brother is fan of hip hop so I listened something with him. Ok, I understand why somebody likes it but still I'm not in mood for it. Maybe someday...

YURA YURA TEIKOKU
ゆらゆら帝国

http://www.i94bar.com/images/Yura-Yura-1s.jpg

WIKI:
is a 3-piece band from Tokyo's underground music scene centered around Kōenji. They have an eclectic sound usually described as psychedelic pop-punk. Whilst renowned and highly influential within Japan, it took them 16 years since their formation in 1989 to play a show outside of Japan, performing in New York City in 2005.

My 2cents: found this band while going through a surf rock phase, real catchy pop music, they are a big deal in japan. I was there recently and was pretty pissed to miss them, ( missed bus home from the snow by about 15 minutes.) Think theyve released about 9 or 10 albums, of which ive chosen songs from 3; ( Hollow Me/ Beautiful, Sweet Spot , and a 1998 - 2004 compilation). Definately not an expert on this band, but when looking to trade or talk about new bands ive found with people, is always one of the first ill bring up, they seem to mesh the best bits of the indie sound, while paying tribute to a 60s psych band, and even a smooth sundays saxaphone band?? see what you think...

favourite songs: Listless Dream, Hollow Me, Ohayo Mada Yaro, De KangaeChuu
