Thank you, I am downloading King Crimson and I am going to download Killing Joke and Sigur Rós.
I am a beginner with this music. I know only Sigur Rós more (have two albums) and I always wanted to start with King Crimson and Killing Joke.

After seeing your tracklists, Jackhammer, I always feel lame for putting so many songs on mine. My John Frusciante one will be much more digestible.

It doesn't annoy me, it only saddens me that threads such as these are perfect for people to stretch out musically and at least try new sounds but many still seem reticent.

It would be poor form for me to sit here bemoaning the lack of responses to my comps. Most of them i make for myself first and then post on here anyhow and if someone likes them then it's all good.

Petula- Marillion? Has to be Fish era only for me ;) but by all means forge ahead.

Marillion are a rock band formed in Aylesbury, England (1979) often categorized as neo-progressive. They originally started as “Silmarillion” (from Tolkien’s book) with heavy influences from classic Genesis but went on to develop their own distinctive sound. They recorded sixteen studio albums but they are devided into two eras with two different leaders - Fish (four albums 1982-1988) and Steve Hogarth (1989 till nowadays).
Now members of Marillion are Steve Hogarth (vocals, lyrics, keyboards, percussions), Steve Rothery (electric and acoustic guitars), Mark Kelly (keyboards, samples, programming), Pete Trewavas (bass guitars) and Ian Mosley (drums).

Yes, I know, Marillion fans are divided into some groups - lot of people prefer only era with Fish, some people era with Hogarth and some people (like me) like both eras.
I read some arguments that without Fish, Marillion lost his individuality. Some people think that with Hogarth their sound is more like pop. Well, it depends who listen to it. I love progressive rock but I like also some pop. But the most important thing for me are emotions during listening. And I feel emotions from both singers :)
So if somebody here doesn't know Marillion, here are songs of both eras. Try to listen to all of them and than you will have your own true how it is with Marillion.

These tracks aren't from all discography, it's just only something to show you favourite songs of Marillion fans. This is my favourite band but I can say that I didn't get into them after listening of best of albums (Best of both worlds or Made again). I think this band needs all studio album to catch you.
My two favourite albums are Brave and Marbles. From Fish era it's Clutching at Straws.

I admire your convictions with Hogarth era Marillion even if I don't like that era. I certainly would have a completely different list of tracks for early Marillion but kudos for the comps!

Have you ever heard Grendel from the Fish Era? It's a 17 minute epic that only found it's way onto the B sides themselves album and is possibly their crowning moment.

Well, I know... but what to choose for beginners? I would say the well known tracks or singles. So my inspiration for this collection (both eras) was album "Best of both worlds" + charts on Last.fm ;)

Fish era Marillion was top class.

Can't remember what the track was called but they played a 10+ min song on their live concert dvd in Lorelei 1987 and that was top notch. Hearts Of Lothian is my favourite song of theirs, my home is called Lothians :) Shows the love

Ok, I admit lot of people have this opinion and charts on Last.fm shows it too - Marillion - Last.fm (At least it shows that with Fish they were more known.)

But if you don't know Hogarth, don't judge without knowing and try it, he is not so bad ;)

Not been on the ball with this. Still need to listen to these mixes. But I listened to the UK Punk compilation last week several times and it was a great, great education in an era I had kind of ignored, which is weird considering my roots are in classic punk. I still doubt there is an Oi! album I would care to invest in, but this compilation was a perfect cross-section, just the right length, great track sequencing ANDSOFORTH. Nice one.

Also I just noticed the indexing of these compilations on the front page, about bloody time too! The non/'ghost' members of MB will be in hog heaven...
