Er... that's probably not a great place to start if you're trying to get into Bjork.

It's mostly british stuff as that's the stuff I know. Sorry if missed stuff you guys think should have been included. But tough sh*t.

Beginners guide to contemporary maths.zip

Track list, in no particular order, there was an order worked out, but it got lost/messed up.

Brilliant the Brilli Ant - Cats And Cats And Cats
The Torso Was Severed In Mid Thorax - Meet Me In St. Louis
Naughtiest Girl Is A Monitor - Youthmovies
Baboon - This Town Needs Guns
Night Of The Pencils - Tubelord
Outerspace - Colour
... Spooks The Horse - Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies
If You'd Seen A Battlefield - Youthmovies
All We Need Is A Little Energon And A Lot Of Luck - Meet Me In St Louis
Unicorns - Colour
Every Place Is A House - Maps And Atlases
Building (A House For Flowers And Lovers) - The Murder Of Rosa Luxemburg

I listened to it while reading the explanation of the tag "Math Rock". I have to say, I'm glad I finally understood what the hell they were doing, while also enjoying it. I even downloaded Meet Me In St. Louis' album "Variations on Swing":

Maybe cause I liked the whole concept of the band having movie quotes as track titles, or maybe because one of the tracks was named "Ein Zwei Drei Hasslehoff". All I know is I had to get it, and I'm pretty much digging it.

Thx for the comp Storm.

check out colour, its the bassist from MMISL's others band, and shoes and socks off is the MMISLs singers solo acoustic stuff.

Variations on swing is possibly my favourite album.

What could be good for this thread is members requesting bands or genres that they would like to hear and providing comps that way. There are so many good comps in here that people have taken time over never to be downloaded.

NumberNineDream 11-28-2009 05:23 PM

I think it should also be indexed (and I'd be happy to help with it)

Mojo 11-28-2009 05:26 PM

Indexing it would be the way to go i think. I would probably be more likely to check this thread for comps as and when i was in the mood for them rather than download them as they are posted.

If anyone wanted to do an Electro-House beginners guide I'd be all over that. I really don't know much about this at all, but love what I've heard of it lately. Someone posted a couple mix's of it in the Electronica forums which were great, but if anyone wanted to make a guide here I'd love to check it out.

I've been hearing good things about this band the second I visited this forum, so checking them was a priority. Luckily, I found this comp posted by Dread. I'm liking almost all of the tracks, and some of them I just loved. So I decided it's time to get my hands on some albums, any recommendations would be appreciated.

As from what I found out from my favs in the comp, I should download these three first:

Early Whitney (2003)

Oaklandazulasylum (2003)

Elephant Eyelash (2005)

I thought of something the other day (who would've guessed). Anyway, I was thinking, that other than this thread being stickied, maybe when this new "Comps & Soundtracks" section is created this thread would be stickied there.

Edit:

I downloaded this comp yesterday:

This may be the most useless beginner’s guide as of yet, but for those 2 who haven’t bothered checking out The Bad Seeds, here is a little compilation for you. I decided to upload two lists, allowing you to check out both sides of the band. Some will probably complain that some choices are too mainstream, or I didn’t include their fave song, well **** you :D.

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds…
Track then album year

Saint Huck - From Here To Eternity (1984)
Tupelo - The First Born Is Dead (1985)
Hard On For Love - Your Funeral My Trial (1986)
Deanna - Tender Prey (1988)
The Hammer Song - The Good Son (1990)
Papa Won’t Leave You, Henry - Henry's Dream (1992)
Loverman - Let Love In (1994)
The Curse Of Millhaven - Murder Ballads (1996)
Get Ready For Love - Abattoir Blues (2004)
Lie Down Here & Be My Girl - Dig!!! Lazarus, Dig!!! (2008)

Bad Seeds 1.rar

Your Funeral… My Trial - Your Funeral My Trial (1986)
Mercy - Tender Prey (1988)
The Ship Song - The Good Son (1990)
Loom Of The Land - Henry's Dream (1992)
I Let Love In - Let Love In (1994)
Henry Lee - Murder Ballads (1996)
(Are You) The One That I’ve Been Waiting For? - The Boatman's Call (1997)
Cannibal’s Hymn - Abattoir Blues (2004)
O Children - The Lyre Of Orpheus (2004)
Hold On To Yourself - Dig!!! Lazarus, Dig!!! (2008)

Bad Seeds 2.rar

I really loved the idea of separating the two sides, tho I guess we can only appreciate them together. But for a beginner's comp (like my poor self) this can be helpful. Really good comp. I can't believe I still don't own any of his albums, tho I've been a fan of his for some good time now (but it was more from viewing some specials and concerts on TV).
So thanks for the comp Zark.

^ I just downloaded Nick Cave and Why? too. They were both great, especially the Why?, so I'll definitely be checking out some of their albums.
