Ahhhh I love that second song you posted, but it reminds me so much of Kingdom Hearts. I swear to god it could be a song from Ariel's world or any of the world's really. Did Mitsuda have anything to do with the KH soundtrack? <3 It's beautiful...:)
And you didn't like the FFX soundtrack? I found it to be almost as good as FFIX or FFVIII, and maybe better than FFVII.

And i know i'm a massive fanboy of it but i have to say Smash Bros Brawl. Original and often orchestral takes on all the famous Nintendo themes, it sounds bloody epic most of the time and brilliant. I can tell they put some real effort into those themes for the game.
San Andreas and Vice City have the best soundtracks. MVP Baseball 2003 is a close second. That game had Shinedown when they debuted, All-American Rejects when they debuted, Sum 41, and other underrated rock bands.

Im not sure if Mitsuda worked on Kingdom Hearts OST, but its a possibility. He has worked with Square on a whole bunch of games. His style is so good, the melodies he makes are mesmerizing.
And its not that I didn't like X's soundtrack, I just really dug the psone era games a lot more so those songs are really etched in my brain haha. "To Zanarkand" is definitely one of the series best songs though, such a beautiful tune.
You should listen to this guy lonlonjp; he does a whole bunch of acousic covers of video game songs. Really gifted guitarist
