I realise many people have heard this soundtrack but if you have'nt, where have you been? Contemporary soundtracks are rarely right on the money. The balancing act of the music complimenting the images is a delicate balance and I think that very few directors manage this feat. Trainspotting does it. A soundtrack should be a self contained album that can stand up on it's own two feet without the film behind it. Trainspotting encapsulated the musical climate in Britain at the time yet it also retains a timeless quality and sounds as fresh as it did nearly 12 years on (is it really that long ago?). Soundtracks can be seen as an empty vehicle to boost particular artists and sometimes dont even appear in the film for more than a few seconds. Trainspotting is different. It is an essential album and one of the best contemporary soundtracks put down.

That movie is the reason I bought Iggy Pop's The Idiot

It's a pity that Welsh's follow up book Porno sucked big time.

I didn't think it was that bad. It wasn't great either, Renton should've stayed the main character not Sick Boy.

I did like Begbies little burglar friend though. That sub plot had potential. The reason why a follow up ( film wise) has never emerged is McGregors dismay at Porno. I agree entirely.

But still I'd love to see them make a movie. When I frist read Trainspotting I had no idea what they were saying because it's written in scottish.. but I figured it out. kind of like when I read A Clockwork Orange.

Trainspotting, both the book and the movie, remains one of my favorite stories ever told. And the soundtrack is stellar, to say the least.
I haven't read Porno, though. I just didn't think Trainspotting really needed a follow-up.

Hard to find little bugger, but a good follow up to the original. As far as Porno is concerned, it was a decent story, but definitely no Trainspotting or Acid House. Welsh has continually disappointed me with his past few books, the last one I can say I really enjoyed was Glue, but I have still yet to read Ecstasy or Filth, however I have read Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs and If You Liked School Then You'll Love Work and yeah... I dunno it's nice to see him branch out into America, but I liked it more when it was set exclusively in the U.K. I haven't even bothered with his newest entry Crime because the last two have disappointed me so much.

I don't have either :(
