Spoon - The Beast and The Dragon, Adored I love this entire album... and this was the song that introduced me to spoon.
Shawn Colvin - Sunny Came Home I rediscovered this song only recently, and have vague memories of loving it on the radio years ago. Bush - Glycerine I cant explain why i like this one so much, it was the soundtrack to some rather... interesting times. Mummy Calls - Beauty Has Her Way See above. Counting Crows - Round Here Love this band. Love this song. David Bowie - Within You Love this guy. Love this movie. Love this song. Its so cheesy. Grateful Dead - Friend Of The Devil I heard the counting crows version first, but this has got some interesting guitar in the background. David Gray - Shades of Grey Who wouldn't steal their girlfriend's father's prize cows, then get drunk and stoned, and try to escape to mexico? Blues Traveller - Hook So... true. Blue October - Calling You (For Mamie) This ones all cheesy and cliche and cute. I know that most of these are fairly... well-known amongst certain circles. But being brought up in the hole that is this town, its hell hard to find most of this music. I also recognise that my taste in music is somewhat... lacking. =D

my list is all mainstream. no new, obscure bands to discover, i don't think, but oh well.
1. radio ballet by eluvium - not really a 'song'. but still one of the most beautiful pieces of music i've ever heard. it's not too busy, and it's something i could fall asleep to. from my favorite eluvium album, copia, it just seems to move you without needing lyrics to do it. 2. across the universe by the beatles - some of my favorite lyrics. i'm sure everyone's heard this song before so i don't really have to go into detail. it kind of lets your imagination run wild if you listen to the words. 3. we used to vacation by cold war kids - musically, it's pretty different from what you usually hear in a song like this. nathan willet has some interesting vocals and the lyrics are just plain depressing. but a very catchy song nonetheless. 4. cello song by nick drake - just really really pretty. the cello and drake's voice just go together very well, and the whole feel of it is ethereal, but with mixture of sad and hopeful at the same time. 5. corruption by iggy pop - an intense song with some cool guitar. some of the first material by iggy pop i heard, and i've loved it ever since. 6. silver lining by stiff little fingers - another catchy song. just punk, through and through. it's not the typical angry, '**** society' type of punk song. 7. dark is rising by mercury rev - like radio ballet, this could be considered a work of art to me. awesome lyrics (extremely quotable) with stunning orchestra in the beginning and through-out. a really hazy, kind of dreamy feel to it. 8. nevermore by queen - yeah, it's queen. i know there aren't a lot of queen fans at musicbanter, but this one is short and sweet. good piano and a cliche'd heartbroken 'forlorn' kind of vibe, but still unique in it's own little way. basically, you know it's queen when you hear it. 9. strange brew by cream - i listened to this over and over when i first got into cream. classic rock, but still pretty mellow. my favorite cream song, even though i don't listen to it as much. 10. uncle remus by frank zappa - jesus, i made my whole family listen to this with me in the car for about a month when i heard it. i'm a pretty big fan of piano, and this had a really cool piano intro that i want to learn. also a guitar solo, and some powerful lyrics. 06 Radio Ballet.m4a (sorry, not enough posts to do a proper url. just take out the spaces.) |
