Okay, here I go. Wish me luck 1) Dir En Grey - Obscure Though I don't often listen to them anymore, this band was absolutely critical to my musical evolution. They helped me really open my mind to different styles of music that I wasn't even aware of previously. 2) King Crimson - I Talk to The Wind I wasn't really too familiar with King Crimson until recently, but they're a big influence on many bands that have in turn been a huge influence on me (tool, porcupine tree etc.) 3) The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun I know, its cliche, but this song has truly been a big asset to me in getting through certain hard times. 4) Protest The Hero - Heretics and Killers This band just throws everything into their music. The emotional charge in this song is crazy. 5) Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun Simply one of the pest prog-rock bands out there right now, this song is one of my favorites by Porcupine Tree. This is the live version from their new album Warszawa. 6) Cold War Kids - We Used To Vacation Another fairly recent entry into my musical repertoire, these guys are gradually slipping me into the indie scene. 7) Thrice - Red Sky The finisher to their masterpiece concept album this song is haunting and a great way to end an album. 8) The Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet With Butterfly Wings Who doesn't relate to this classic? Besides that, the pumpkins were also a huge influence on me during my early days of listening to music, and this song brings back many bitter-sweet memories. 9) John Lennon - Imagine This song proves Lennon's genius, and will (hopefully) immortalize him, as I expect the the message will be pertinent to human kind for years to come. 10) Mindless Self Indulgence - 2 Hookers and An 8 Ball The comic relief to my list Edit* Upload taken off... Not quite a ten tracker, but another trek into the unknown! 1. King Jammy - Slow Motion Dub. A dub classic. Say no more really. 2. Grand National - Going To Switch The Lights On. Great little classic pop band with a sparkly gitar jingle. 3. The Cranes - Bewildered. You could call them a proto trip hop band with the female vocals and strange beats. 4. Mount Eerie- No Flashlight. Minimalist acoustic yumminess. 5. Loop - Shot With A Diamond. Trip ahoy! Hypnotic and utterly original. You wont hear many tracks similar. 6.The Stranglers - Threatened. You want big fat bass lines? check out Jean Jacques Burnell's booming lines on this classic post punk track. 7. Bernard Herrman - Taxi Driver Theme Stunning last score from a soundtrack master. A beautiful Jazz infused piece. 8. The Toasters-Marlboro Man Third wave ska at it's catchiest. 9. Tin Machine-Pretty Thing. Most fans did'nt like Bowie's side project that was essentially an upmarket metal band. I however love the first album and this track. 10. Nitzer Ebb-Fun To Be Had. One of the earliest EBM bands around. Very influential. 11. Lisa Gerard-The Insider. Glorious hypnotic track from the film soundtrack The Insider. Lisa Gerard was a member of the influential Dead Can Dance. 12. Folk Implosion-Natural One. I have only ever heard this track by these and would love to hear more. I love the big snare sound and the breezy guitar licks. 13. Clayhill-Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want. A cover of The Smiths classic for the This Is England soundtrack. 14. Roy Budd-Get Carter Theme. Classic film. Iconic score. 15. Graham Reynolds-Aphids. Strange bizarre electronice from the A Scanner Darkly soundtrack RapidShare: 1-Click Webhosting

1. Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue - The Ramones
Simple, light-hearted punk rock. What more can you ask for? 2. Know Your Enemy - Rage Against The Machine This song is some of the catchiest and best guitar work from Tom Morello. It's also the truth, especially at the end of the song. "Compromise, conformity, assimilation, submission, ignorance, hypocrisy, brutality, the elite, all of which are american dreams". 3. Invalid Litter Dept - At The Drive In This song is angsty, metaphoric and emotional. An excellent and neccessary post-hardcore song. 4. I'm The One - Descendents Great, non-commercial pop-punk. 5. Over My Head (Better Off Dead) - Sum41 I don't care what anyone says about Sum41. They're mainstream, but awesome, and this is their best song, in my opinion. 6. I Wanna Get A Mohawk (But Mom Won't Let Me Get One) - AFI Hardcore, energetic, and snotty. THIS is punk rock. 7. From The Bottom Of My Heart - The Wallflowers This is a beautiful acoustic song by one of my favorite bands. It is very relaxing. 8. I Can't Explain - The Who In its simplicity, it is awesome. One of the best songs of the 60's. 9. Adam's Song - Blink 182 My favorite song. Ever. It's a song about suicide, but the last part is upbeat, and speaks from the perspective of the person had they not committed suicide. 10. And The Hero Will Drown - Story Of The Year This song is intense, emotional, energetic, and amazing. The greatest emo/screamo/hardcore/whateverthekidscallitthesedays song there is. I've loved it since I first heard it, that long-ass time ago. It goes from screaming, to melodic singing to heavy guitar. It's a very chaotic song that makes you want to just start screaming with him. Last edited by Alfred; 03-04-2008 at 08:18 PM. |
